Where are the damn Pirates??

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I did a pretty thorough search and couldn't find anything.

I'm a relatively new commander who has taken on her first pirate hunt contract- problem is, I've spent an hour and a half searching, but I just can't find them anywhere. The internet seems to consistantly say look in USS's, but none that I've found have screamed "pirates here!"- I seem to consistantly get "convoy despersal pattern," "degraded emissions," "encoded emissions" etc. What types of USS's shpuld I take the time to drop into when I'm looking for pirates or assassin targets?

You can look for USS that have "Weapons Fire Detected". Depending on your combat skills, be wary about higher threat levels (they go 1 - 4).

Depending on the system, you can also hang around the Nav Beacon, or visit RES if there are any. But... I took such a mission the other day, and despite hanging around the Nav and dropping into quite a few USS for about an hour or so, not one mission target spawned, they were all from different factions. I'm sorry to say I got bored and abandoned the mission. I'm honestly not sure that these particular missions aren't bugged as the game should spawn mission targets, not just random NPCs.

Easiest way to find those pirates (IMHO) would be to wait in supercruise, watchiong the shipping lanes, and scanning NPC. Some will show as "wanted/mission target"... then just interdict and vaporize.

Go to CD-60 31, the NAV beacon is compromised and lot of pirates there!

Usually, pirate hunting mission require to target pirates from a specific "clan" so going to another system won't help.
(compromised beacons are still a very nice place to hunt, though).

Some hunting missions do require a specific time for you to intercept the target, so make sure you haven't missed the window of opportunity to find him/her.

Other places to check are Nav beacons and RES but the safer ones tend to get swamped with police.
Carrying some cargo sometimes attracts them but the most reliable method seems to be interdicting them.
