Where are the pirates lurking?

Hi!

I'm pretty new to this game and I've read some posts on piracy recently which raised a question. Where do people actually get pirated by other players?

As I understood it there is no way for players to use super cruise interdiction yet so how does it happen? Do pirates just hang around outside the no-fire zone of starports and hope someone is a little slow with charging the jump drive?

Pretty much at the moment, it's currently also possible to get attacked by other players in extraction zones, unidentified signal sources and combat zones. They may target your cargo hold, when a cargo hold is down to 60% it starts to jettison canisters.

Mostly outside stations. Keep in mind another ship can slow you down going into SC/jumping.

Sorry, that wasn't very helpful, was it. Along with the vicinity of stations, you might come by them in Unidentified Signal Sources where there's NPC quarry and/or stolen loot floating about. Hint: depending on the situation, they may raise objections to your presence... or otherwise relish it :)

Edit: Oops, ZeeWolf already mentioned signal sources.

Probably just hanging back, plotting their plots, over at Pirate Bay I reckon :)
Or at the bottom of the ocean holding their breath (too internal? :D)
