Engineers Where are these other options for increasing rep/unlocking engineer upgrades?

Okay I've unlocked 3 of the 4 engineers, but I thought there were other methods for unlocking upgrades besides crafting mods. I saw the thread here about selling exploration data via Universal Cartography for Farseer, but has anyone seen options for the other engineers?

I'm not sure that the selling of explo data is supposed to be happening but great if it is. Michael Brookes said that the reputation system would come in a patch between now and 2.2 dropping.
