Newcomer / Intro Where can i see how far i can jump without refuelling?

refuelling after each jump isnt that effecient, so id like to know how many jumps can be made (across how many lightyears) before fuel starts to become a concern.

where can i view this info ingame?

It will depend on ship type and fuel tank size. I've been in a Cobra a while, with a 16 ton tank. I get warnings when I try to hyperspace jump too far, above 2 tons on fuel, so from that I assume I could make 8 maximum jumps (for me the max (unladen with cargo) distance is ~13Ly).

More generally, I just get used to the pace of jumps and have never yet run out, and refuel by scooping from stars now and again. A sidewinder has a smaller fuel tank, let's say it's only 4 ton, so at max jumps of 2 tons that's two max distance jumps (but I've an inkling a Sidey might have a max of 1.3 tons per jump, so could max at 3 jumps per tank).

I'm not aware of a source of max fuel tank/jump distances by ship type. Max jump distance depends how much weight you put in your ship, including cargo. The outfitting screen shows data for max Ly jump distances based on current, laden and max weight.

I don't think you can see a hard number because it isn't linear with increasing jump length. Doing one 10ly jump will use more fuel than doing two consecutive 5ly jumps. Doing those same jumps with a full hold will also use more fuel than running unladen

However, on the galaxy map navigation pane, the blue lines change from solid to dashes when they are showing a path beyond your range with a full tank. You also have the option to select whether those lines are being drawn for "fastest route" - get there in the fewest jumps possible - or "efficent route" - do more jumps but use as little fuel as possible.

ahh i see, i didnt know that the lines change. ive only ever seen solid blue lines everywhere. (so i assume i must be able to travel a fair few jumps, unladen)

didnt know that multiple jumps to the same destination instead of 1 big jump saves fuel.

good to know.
i think ill get a fuel scoop soon just incase.

Word to the wise on fuel scooping... Do make sure that the star you're planning on refueling at is one you CAN scoop at. Some star types cannot be scooped from. The last thing you want is to be running on fumes and find yourself looking at a white dwarf (just an example, this is not the only unscoopable type) without enough fuel to go anywhere else. At that point your only choices are to self-destruct or wait for your fuel (and therefore your power) to be exhausted.. at which point you die anyway once your emergency O2 runs out.
