Where did all the Scouts go?

Hey all,

I'm helping defend Jameson Memorial. Fun. Totally forgot to take missions to get extra rewards for any kills. I must have taken out 100+ Scouts before I remembered. Took some 10-14 Scout kill missions, completed them in just a few minutes - there were so many scouts. Upon returning to cash them in, I took a couple of 60+ Scout kill missions... I exited the Station and... I've not seen a single Scout in the last hour! Just Interceptors. Killed one Interceptor - Baslisk - and there's still one roaming around a little way from the station. Still no scouts though.

Why no more Scouts? Anyone know? My basic ship is really only set up for fighting those - easy and fun - and I sold off all my spare AX stuff thinking "I can always pop into Shinrarta and buy whatever I need lol. Leaving the sector, or just logging out, seems to break the progress for the "Eliminate the Thargoid Threat" mission I took, and it's almost complete... perhaps that's why no more Scouts...

I think the Scouts were all killed with just the two Interceptors lasting a while. Eventually, they were destroyed too, then the mission progressed into the final phase: "Destroy the three Hydra". However, this is when things went nuts. Sure, three Hydra spawned in, along with dozens of scouts. However, at the very least two additional Interceptors spawned in too. So, I have at least five Interceptors, dozens of Scouts, several swarms buzzing around - it's deadly out there. Local AX forces fell in seconds, I'm sorta stuck on the station.

If I leave, that's mission failed no doubt and we're so close! Playing in PG, but only me online, doubt anyone else will be about. Even if they are, they've not really engaged in any AX stuff, so they're not prepared at all. I'm in my "AX Titan Collector" Anaconda, which was built to scavenge destroyed Titan sites. As such, it's a cold ship, no shields, decent hull armour but only AX Turreted Multi's for defence along side two C1 Thermal Vent Beam Turrets. It has 3x Caustic and 3x Heat Sinks, Shut down neutraliser and the Enhanced Xeno scanner, but it's slow, designed for Stealth more than anything.

The only other AX build I have is a Titan Bomber - not much use in this scenario as it's missile-equipped. Is there any chance the AX AI Pilots can push back? I've gotten most of the Interceptor kills thus far, doing easily 80-90% of the overall damage, but those AX AI's are great to split the Thargoid's fire...

Thought: I would go on foot and see if I can watch what's going on outside... but Disembark is greyed out, understandably.

I'd help if I was in a position to do so. Still a bit of time left on the old work clock (I know, and I'm posting here).

Even so, I'm an old hand at interceptor fighting but not one who can do the big guys solo. Basilisk is about the best I can do. So, I wouldn't be much help alone.

I never thought I'd get to play today, but had a little extra time - usually this is a weekend-only activity for me, and I've barely played this summer outside of doing at least one run vs. a Titan when it becomes vulnerable.

I do like Fighting Thargoids, but while I have solo'd a few Interceptors, it's much more fun with help. Scout combat in an AX Turret build is good fun, Interceptors in the same build are a bit of a grind, my dps is soo very low. I should unlock some Guardian Shards and engineer them really, however, my last venture into Guardian weapons (the Plasma Chargers) was a broken mess. They reliably and consistently do ZERO damage for me, so I sold them all. BP unlocks wasted argh. Should have at least two more Weapon BP's in the bank - I did the grind to have enough to unlock ALL of them, but game bugged out not granting me the BP on many of my Guardian Site runs. As such, I really don't want to go through that again. I do need better guns for this stuff though, no doubt!

Solo interceptor fighting back in the day was more like a gentlemen's duel than a battle. It is more fun with others.

Urgh, game just crashed / locked up. Had to restart the PC. Dunno if I died while frozen, I was cold (14%) parked next to the station repairing....

Hmm, that's weird. I got back in-game, not destroyed thankfully, but at 100% hull (and all modules) 9km or so from the Station. That's really odd. Unfortunately, the mission progress reset. The progress bar was full, not it's back at like 5%. I don't think I'll do this again, it seems to glitch out at a certain point.

It will do the same thing with other locations where the scenery may move into the location where your ship vanished from, such as planetary rings.

When you lose connection near a station the game puts you at a "safe" distance from the station on return.

"Safe". Right near where Thargoids are spawning and some distance from the station lol. When the game crashes in such situations, it's pop luck what state your ship will be in when you're get back in. Fully repaired by magic? Damaged worse than before? Heat / Caustic sinks gone? Fun times lol.

Yes, the "safe" was for normal situations and yea, "safe" with this scenario is right near where the thargoids spawn.

I was shooting at one scout and it did nothing , it’s health didn’t change at all ever, took it as a challenge then gave up.

I did noticed scouts seemingly getting stuck when spawning in. They'd appear from the little cloud thing, but then be invulnerable to weapons fire for an extended period. They'd then suddenly zoom off at full speed - no acceleration, transitioning from zero to full speed instantly - and only then become vulnerable.

Assuming you haven't gotten an answer to the question in the OP, this is just standard AX conflict zone behavior. You probably cleared out all the Scout spawns while the remaining allocation for the progress bar was already taken up by Interceptors. And when it fills up, well, you can guess. Triple Hydra spawn, but throughout that you will also get Scouts and other random Interceptor spawns.

In this particular case, I just prefer to reset the CZ when it reaches the Hydra stage because I don't really feel like slogging through three of them. And there is a LOT of Scouts around too.
