Newcomer / Intro Where do I go to find cool stuff?

Okay so say I want to take a break from the mission grind and do a little sight seeing. Where would I go to find like, the biggest, coolest space stations or cities in space on on a planet. And also maybe some huge cool battle cruisers or whatever? I've seen videos of these things but so far I have only seen small ships and occasional freighters. I'm wondering if it might be because so far I have only played solo. Never tried online play. Don't have the experience or time to get the experience. I've heard that newbs don't last long in that environment...

I cant tell you where to find those things but I do know that you don't need to be in open to see anything different. The only difference with open is that you can meet other players.

Hi there,

i believe I saw this already on the steam forum where I gave you some pointers for finding cool stuff. ^^

Regarding Open Mode: Try it for yourself! As long as you avoid Community Goals and other hotspots in Open you will have no problem with other Commanders.
The space I'm operating in is mostly devoid of other Commanders. :)

I was just about to nip in here and point brett at that ... thanks!

Re: space battles, you need to find a system that's in a state of war or civil war which has both Federation and Empire aligned minor factions. Then you just need to head out to one if its combat zones. With luck, a short while after you arrive, you'll get to see capital ships arrive and start fighting.

Also, if you're looking for somewhere to visit that's a little different, take a trip over to the Epsilon Indi system, fly out to the "New Africa" water world planet and try landing on its moon, which is called "Mitterand Hollow". ;)

Okay, great! Thanks guys. I will give these a try, and maybe now thanks to Turlorns encouraging words, I'll be brave enough to try open.

You don't land on Mitterand Hollow, Mitterand Hollow lands on you!

Actually that's the only way. It's rather freaky sitting in the path of a fast moving moon waiting for it to collect you. It would be pretty cool in VR.
