Powerplay Faction: Aisling Duval Where do I start?

I have always found Powerplay terribly confusing. I'd like to join in on a deeper level than simply merit-grinding. But I don't know what to do - don't even know how to spend my nomination points. Can anyone give me a few pointers?

- I always play Powerplay in Open, for the spirit of the thing.
- I just defected to Aisling after 4 weeks with Patreus for no other reason than to steal his plasma accelerators.

- I think I need a 101 from someone who actually plays to further the Power's wider goals. :S

If you really want to give PP a go I really recommend finding a group either here or on Reddit etc. to help out.
When I joined the Kumo crew I often visited Archon's thread in the Dangerous Discussion forum to get the low down on what was happening and where to help out. You can learn loads from the dedication of others and because you start working towards the common cause you also end up bumping into more CMDRs supporting your power (and some that definitely don't!!)

It makes the whole system much easier to enjoy, PP definitely needs more social tools in-game. It may not be perfect but if you put some effort in you can get a lot more back from it, I really enjoyed my time pledged to Archon.

Edit: just noticed this is a Duval forum, I came here from a link on the main FD page...
I'm not a "Pirate" any more, my affair with PP only lasted a few months :p

I always felt it was a shame it wasn't integrated into the background sim. Imagine if minor factions were either aligned or unaligned, and to win a system for your power you had to flip the system or convince the faction in charge to join your power by doing missions for them while pledged. The whole thing would have much more variety. Still, it is what it is.

It kinda is integrated into the background sim (BGS). The BGS can affect how much effort it takes for a Power to control a system. The simplistic version is "The more systems are controlled by Good Governments, the better things are for that Power". Good Governments for Aisling are Communist, Confederacy, and Co-Op. The complex version is "It's Calvinball." We track some AD BGS goals on the AD Trello.

The AD Slack is a great place to find other people to work with. We've got a channel dedicated to BGS, and it's pretty active.

This guide will be usefull when I join, thanks :)
As for Slack it's just like IRC, with more functionality ? (shared file...)

It has a web based client :D Although the desktop app is more useful if you're on multiple slacks. I'm a fan of the desktop app.

And of course, the phone app is wonderful. Don't forget to fill out the linked form to gain access.
