Newcomer / Intro Where Do You Find Limpets?

To be more precise, you can tell which space stations sell limpets by clicking on the station in the system map and seeing if they have "Restock" listed as one of the services. The larger rotating space station classes always have this service; the smaller outposts often do not. But if a station has "Restock", it can refill expended ammunition as well as resupply limpets.

By the way OP, I have over 2,000 hours in the game and when they moved the limpet purchasing to its current location it took me five minutes to work out where it had gone. It's easily one of the least intuitive things I have ever seen in a game. As Wyaston Hypatia says above, the line you're on is actually the purchase line - right to add, left to decrease, then confirm to actually buy the little beggars.

Do you have cargo space available? They sit in your hold like cargo when you buy them rather than being self-contained within the controller like weapon ammo.

Oh and don't worry about sounding like a noob when you ask stuff mate. Firstly you are a noob :p but more importantly we all were once.

No no no! A "newb" or "newbie" is a New Player. A noob" is someone who doesn't know, and refuses to learn. Everyone is a newb initially, but eventually grows out of it. One can be a noob even if they are a 10 year vet.

EDIT: Doh, didn't check the date of the posts.

Naw, newb rather then noob. I am willing to learn. I just forgot to check posting dates due to it appearing at the top with new posts.

EDIT: Also feel rather strongly about referring to new players by the insult "noob".

Yes I'd picked up on that but since there was in fact no insult intended (or taken by the player I replied to) in the post I made three years ago, I think you can uncock your weapons now.

By the way, not checking post dates is a noob error, hence the above reply. Although I'd have thought it obvious that I was in fact joking there. And indeed here.

And normally, I do check post dates. Hadn't seen many (if any) necromancer threads in this forum, so didn't know that was an issue.

Also, text based formats are notorious for being difficult to decipher if something is suppose to be a joke.

It very much is, we seem to be getting examples of necromancy almost daily now.

I know. That's why I included a laughing face emoji.

I got moaned at for teasing that in a post responding to the necromancy:

(that is one of the things mentioned in Leviticus 20:27 - the said poster took it rather harshly rather than the light-hearted tease intended)

To be fair, this forum is pretty hostile and kind of crap in places, so if he has some unfortunate previous encounter he might have stepped into the thread preemptively defensive, so ANY reply would result in an overreaction.

I've been campaigning against using the term "noob" to refer to new players due to it being an insult since 2004 or so. And it's offended me to refer to new players as such since the mid 90's.

I don't really play multiplayer games and even less so PvP, but from what I understand the term "n00b" never really applied to new players in the first place. It's primarily a label for (relatively or supposedly) experienced players acting like they were new to the game, making easy to avoid mistakes, etc.

Even back in the mid 90's it was being used as a derogitory term, with the context of "you suck and will always suck". Applied equally to new players and anyone else who is 'not as skilled' as the person using the term. Granted, it didn't really take off as a mainstream insult to my knowledge till X-Box Live launched and Halo online multiplayer vs became huge.

Well, my only experience with PvP games (if I don't count two matches of Overwatch I was talked into and almost threw up) is World of warships, where it term "noob" is almost exlusively used by players who are already dead (therefore they have time to chat) towards players who will later end up in the top 3 of the team.

That's usually in my experience used in this case as a shorthand for "you must be a cheater because the only way I could possibly lose to you is if you cheat". You have no idea how often I've been accused of cheating or hacking the game while playing an artillery tank in World of Tanks. I'd do things like intentionally over shoot to try hitting enemies that are out of my effective range, taking note of fences/buildings/trees getting knocked down to figure out where enemy tanks are even if they aren't being Spotted by anyone on my team, and firing for effect with zero intention of actually hitting in order to spook an enemy into moving (thus revealing their actual position or getting them out of cover). And the one match where I got lucky and ended the match with 5 kills (while surviving the match) everyone I had managed to take out called me a 'noob' while also reporting me for hacking the game. Because that's the only way they thought I could possibly have taken out their light tanks with my upgraded M1 Abrams medium tank.

To be honest, if you feel it warrants it, surely a new thread giving guidance to newcomers would be more useful than tagging-it-on to the end of a 3 year old one?

This thread was literally the FIRST result I got on Google when I tried searching where to find limpets (and how to quickly determine who sells them). I read every answer on this thread and it didn't help me.

When I figured out the answer on my own I decided to SHARE IT so that people with the SAME QUESTION will get a straight-forward, concise answer that lays everything out.

You're welcome for making this thread more useful.

Now THAT'S helpful! Where was THAT answer when I first googled this question and was forced to figure it out on my own because of all the useless answers? Lulz But you have to admit, the answer I came up with was pretty darn helpful coming from a n00b who NEVER mined and only had 24 hours of gameplay experience. My answer still helps but checking for "restock" on the system map is way BETTER.
