Newcomer / Intro Where do you find which station has certain ships and their prices?

After playing for a week I want to look at other ships but I don t understand how to find some
I know you can look in the system map and look at stations and see that they have shipyards but I don t know how to find a particular ship
Lets say I want to know how much an asp cost and where to buy it...how do I find the closest station that sells it and for how much?

Stay away from Ngaiawang! They are high tech and have nothing for upgrades, and the shipyard only has a Sidewinder!

I also find this to be a bit frustrating. I haven't found any way to find out other than to visit and check. The same applies for ship upgrades.

If you want to know what things cost http://www.edshipyard.com/ will give you prices. The price will be the same everywhere.

As for which yard stocks what... It's hit and miss, other than asking on here you'll need to visit the station. An Asp isn't too hard to find and 6.6m credits.

The only place that has everything is the 'Backers system'...Dezurah somthing or other. This is accessible by anyone reaching Elite Status in the game. Otherwise, find well populated High Tech systems. You will find almost everything in those.

So in 3300 people still have not figured out how to broadcast their wares to the whole galaxy?
You can sell system data but can t share business offers?

If there was one thing I would love to see in this game is a market ala EVE you can access anytime anywhere and see what is for sale or needed and where

The logic as to why this isn't possible escapes me. But no, companies haven't worked out how to broadcast stock and pricing data from one station to another.

Maybe we need a trade scanner to check trade prices, a KWS can get information about bounties from all populated systems why should a similar tool not be available for traders? ;-)

As a loyal Federation citizen, I'm supposed to be bombarded by marketing ads throughout my whole life... I've yet to see a single advertisement for anything, with the exceptions of the ads you see when entering a station, but those just advertise general companies, nothing about products. As far as marketing goes, it seems we're further ahead in 2015 than folks who live in 3301.

Seriously, traders need better in-game tools, and we should be able to find items we wish to buy via the 3301 internet. I'm sure FD will address these issues eventually.

Pretty new to the game, but a possible explanation is that stations don't have any form of subspace communication? To "spread the word" would literally require messenger ships. Duno how players communicate over vast distances though... A wizard did it?

If your ships galaxy map is able to update showing what exist and what has been discovered then there is some sort of communication
But this is not a subscription mmo ala eve so I doubt Frontier will ever bring a Global auction house and communication channels and contracts viewable anywhere in the galaxy
The massive amount of gameplay options it would bring would be huge and it would steal a lot of players from EVE who love EVE but wish there was a first person ship combat option
I for one came from EVE because I like the exploration and first person ship combat which I never got into in EVE as it is not fun for me
The market and its contracts on the other hand was great

30 years ago, it made sense that you had to write that kind of stuff down. These days, not so much.

It didn't make sense back then, either.

Nowadays it is just ridiculous. You don't need fancy ftl subspace communication lines to broadcast your trade data to other systems. You just need a courier in a Sidewinder to carry a data package for you. Which is exactly what many of us have been doing running courier-missions from the bulletin board.

The price lists from all systems - at least the ones that our current station is doing trade with - should be accessible from inside the station. Maybe even from our galaxy map.
