Where Eagles Dare

Ive managed to build enough credits in my trusty Cobra to start experimenting with other ships. I decided to examine the reality of flying a Eagle specifically for pirate hunt missions.
I attempted to upgrade to the max but hit a wall with regards to the power units that where available. A full loadout of A rated shield presented a deployed power req of 10.5 but max power avail was 8.5 even at founders world it was 9.8

In combat its ok for single targets of sides or other eagles. But these days you encounter pirate wings and CMDr pirate rock FDL which will shred that weak armour and weak shield..

OK it looks cool but interested to know if anyone has found a higher rated power unit than B giving 10.8. Maybe in a wing or new life in CQC . Will be interested to see if the new Imperial Eagle ups the armour shield power stakes.
Any objectives comments welcome.

Back to the Cobra.

I love the Eagle, I still own one. I had to sell some parts to afford me a clipper but here is what it looked like:

(btw this online builder is uber cool!)

It makes for a fairly expensive ship for its category, especially since it's still paper thin, as far as protection goes, but if you can afford it it's hella fun to fly and fight in it. You can take on pretty much anything. A vet player in something more powerful will probably dispatch it, but if you know how to take advantage of its superior handling, you can be pretty dangerous.

Now for the real funny part: if you can afford turret beams, go on. They run cheaper on power, you'll have no dead angle left, and with the eagle agility, that's quite a nice cocktail. AND you can make them fixed if your opponent is chaff happy.

So yes, the eagle is quite dangerous to fight in, and not so much a wise choice for long fights. But it is definitely more capable than what seems to be believed now.
