Where have I been?

I have been doing exploration and every now and then I run in to a set of systems I have already explored. My question is this, is there a way to tell from the galaxy map what systems I have already explored? or is there in fact anyway in game to know which systems I have already visited so I don't retrace my own steps?

Currently, no there is not, however your netlog should contain all travel information for quite some time, and programs like the one known as "Captain's log" made by an Elite user can show you the path and similar by tracking your netlog while playing but it can also scan them afterwards.

Look here: http://scarygliders.net/captains-log/

But yeah hopefully this will change so there will be better exploration tracking and such in game as well.

Actually, there is one thing that should indicate whether a CMDR has visited a system or not, if the CMDR has scanners. If a CMDR has visited and scanned a system, then the scan of that system, in terms of the planets and stars within the system, should be accessible through the galmap, regardless of whether the CMDR is currently in the system or not. So, if you select a system you have already visited, then that system should have the option to look at the system map. This should help you to avoid revisiting systems you have already explored.

Or, to put it more simply...

Thanks For both replies.... Sounds like what I am looking for is not in the game. However the log and the system map gray out both helpful. Just wish there was something that showed in map all that I had done so that if I want to make a cluster or sector its easy to figure which ones I still need. OH well hopeful someone will read this and they will add that in the future.

Your idea is an intersting one, and all explorers would love this. But can you imagine how your galaxy map would look like when you had explored 10,000+ systems :p ? It's already cluttered sometimes as it it.
I think the currently available tools are sufficient. Just use EDDiscovery, and trilaterate some systems to help the community. That tool is awesome!
