Where is everyone right now?

Hi,
I bought Elite while it was still in beta but I haven't had a chance to download it before (because my old internet plan had too little data). I was "launched" near Eravate and I worked my way up to Cobra in a day and I am currently travelling between Eravte, Aulin and Sol. I was just curious where everyone was in the 400 billion stars.

Please share where you were spawned and where you are now/or your "base" system.

Thanks,
Aaron.

Some random HIP catalog system. Gathering bounties until I have a decent exploration ship, and then continuing on to wherever. Seems to be mostly "south".

Right now? Sitting on my fat drunk bloated ass trying to digest a bout of Italian Christmas overconsumption and deciding its safer to troll the forums than go and do something stupid thats going to cost me a few million credits in game. :)

But I spawned near Eravate and am currently spending most of my in game time either hauling rare commodities from one end of "civilized" space to the other in my ASP or doing bulk trades in the Empire in my Type 7.

I started out in Aikibo (not sure i spelled that correctly)

I don't have a home system, i stick around an area for a while to make credits and then i move on.

Right now, i'm on my first real exploration trip.

This is my current location:

I started at some LTT1544? system (not sure), Bose station and I'm currently at Nanditi, on my way to Lave for the Amiga nostalgia and rare goods. I'm in a Viper doing exploration and saving for better scanners. Just finished exploring my biggest system yet, Crucis Sector HR-W C1-16, a binary system where the stars were 253,068Ls apart. I got up to 758c.

Thanks for your replies. Right now I can't decide whether to move further out because I wasn't sure if there were any "major" systems out there.

Eg:
Aulin: It is high tech, good star ports, and is surrounded by independent and anarchy systems with black markets with Nav Beacons.
Eravate: Good star ports that are not too far away from star, combination of both federation and independant stations, black market, ok level of tech, surrounded by "good" systems.

Is moving out a good idea? I am scared that I may get a lousy system in the middle of nowhere/

Aaron

Kayweg, you ****** I was just going to California :)

I'm in COL 70 SECTOR VN-J B25-0 now though

I also started out in Aiabiko - but ran into a little trouble there and I believe the authorities there really want to talk to me about some unpaid smuggling fines :)

I've not seen a station in 3 days right now, but remember that while the frontier is not the easiest place to live, it can also be a profitable place to live. For decent variety on trading ports, you do want to stay within the "core" of the empire though. Not be out on the fringe

LOL, i can assure you we're safe from customs and other authorities out here.

And don't worry about California, plenty of systems to explore here.

Also, we don't exactly seem to run low on nebulae in the general vicinity. :D

How do you make profits without going to a station? (Unless you mean you only went to outposts). Does anyone know a major clump/group of systems somewhere out there?

Exploration pays. You can sell your system and planetary surface scans for fairly decent income (make sure you fit your ship with at least the intermediate discovery scanner and surface scanner, and dont forget a fuel scoop, there are no gas stations out on the edge). Its not great income, but it is income and if exploring is your cup of tea you'll get to have some fun and make some creds doing so.

We profit in terms of the sights we see, and the satisfaction of being out 1500 LY from civilisation with no support network, no ability to dock for repairs, having to survive with just our ship.

When we get back, we'll have lots of exploration data to sell, but it really isn't about the money, it's about the visuals.

Even with a scoop, remember to top off every time you can.

It's nto that long ago I read a ragequit thread by someone that neglected to do so, and ran into 7 stars on the trot that couldn't be scooped from.

Started at LHS 3447 (As did the original poster, that's the spawn point near Eravate), presently at Futen Spaceport, Fujin system, on a rare run interspersed with bounty collecting.

Running trades between Dutton Station (Ho Hsien) and Ozanne Landing (Abazi) before continuing on elsewhere. Also, shooting players who I scan purchasing slaves who fail to enter the hanger at Ozanne Landing, because they're using the "exploit" of the Bulletin Board that was posted earlier (which, of course, has been in the game since late beta/early gamma). Yea, it's a mean thing to do, but I get a kick out of blowing up people that are attached to Outposts, without hitting the station ;-)

I've never tried, but what happens when you hit an outpost? It would be funny to see the outpost and everyone docked in it blow up lol.

Started in LHS 3447. Got into an Adder and tricked it out almost fully for exploration. Did Betelgeuse and Canopus plus another run out to 500 Ly then came back to sell data and do a little trading in order to kit out a Cobra with 4A FSD, Advanced scanner and surface scanner also a big fuel scoop (250/s) and set off for Rigel which I have just left. I have another target in mind which is a further 6000 or so Ly further out so I'm probably going to be gone for a long while. I just hope my ship stays together.
