where is my free access to 1 of 5 ships

so in the recent news letter it stated that all packs have now been honoured, i am a beta backer and we were told in newsletter 49 that we would get

25% off in-game ship insurance for life to all our Beta backers
free access to one of the 5 new ships when it’s released!

no where is this, i have no stored ships or the option to get a free ship, is it just not implemented yet, would i have had to restart to get this bonus? can someone, preferably a dev explain whats going on, i paid for something which i have not yet received

I think it's a misleading line in the news letter.

It should read, receive one of the five ships when they are released. As they haven't been released yet, we don't have them.

Do you have access to your free Eagle? That should have been included in the Mercenary pack.

You also get an additional ship out of the 5 new ships which have been announced past the original 25. That is, FDEV will first make 25 ships as promised in the KS, then they will make an additional 5, and one of those last 5 ships will be given for free. Note that this ship will be available "when it’s released". That is, when the ship is released, not when the game is released.

Crikey, how many times must this be re-stated? There was going to be 25 ships, but because they couldn't get them done by launch, there will now be 30, but all these extra ships, including the one that backers will get access to, are not going to come rolling round the corner tomorrow. Show a little patience, there's plenty to be getting on with.

In this week’s newsletter David Braben reflects on the whole development process and how the game has evolved from the original game outline to where we are today – and announces that there will eventually be 30 playable ships in Elite: Dangerous, 5 more than we had previously said!

So eventually there will be 30 ships in the game, 5 more than originally planned and when these extra 5 comes along we will get...

free access to one of the 5 new ships when it’s released!

So when these 5 ships are released all Alpha/Beta backer will be able to pick one of these for free.

"when it's released" refers to when the ship is released, not when the game is released.

I was given free Eagle at lhs3447. I had to look for it mind you. Maybe its there somewhere. Are you saying there is going to be another ship?

Show a little patience, there's plenty to be getting on with.

Probably several more times as backers begin to play post-release. Show a little patience, the fault lies with FD using poor grammar or missing a deadline rather than with the player.

Just some minor pedantry.... nowhere does it say we can pick it. We might all get the same one. If they range from starter ships to huge freighters, then I can't see them letting us pick.

The OP misinterpreted the information from the newsletter and the forum helped clarify.

I'm not sure how this is considered a mistake on FDEVs part. They planned 25 ships and how now plan to bump that up to 30.

YUp, ive said this many times now - it says "access to", so they are probably faction or reputation limited to others, but instant access to beta & higher backers from the KS.

YOu will still need to pay for them in game...

(its a HUGE bonus otherwise, one that just wouldn't make sense)

The devs and David Braben All ready stated during kickstarter that this game is the game they want to play and it keeps evolving over time like we saw with the alpha premium beta and beta game tests even after release things changed like the orbital rings .new content wil be released like planetary landings hunting space walks stealing other playerships walking around your ship staions etc etc .

Somethings have to be hard it has to have some challenges skill and player gratification showing of your skill to others most of other (Alpha and beta ) players are willing to help the newer players .

Defending every thing is just dumb that keeps the game from evolving but complaining about every single thing that has to do with skill levell and and game play , has the same effect it wil dumb down the game to console level and that is what no one wants .

so i totally agree with you sir u your Rep +1 .

And enjoy the game for many years

However the additional ships have not been revealed/released as of yet. So logic would dictate that the additional unplanned 5 ships to choose from do not exist yet, therefore cannot be part of the in-game digital rewards. None of the information above has been "misleading", just trying to explain and clarify what is actually pretty simply that people need more patience than the "immediate gratification" mentality.
