Perhaps FD might implement a policy where they subtract -1% Optimal Multiplier off G5 Dirty Drive's everytime someone asks how close the patch is to being released :D

I am though pretty excited about the new update (especially after playing with some new builds in the beta), but I'm also a little worried about engineering nerfs that might happen before the full release, since the new builds I'm planning in chapter 1 are contingent on them staying the same or improving.

These 2 upgrades in particular I'm keeping my eye on:

G5 Lightweight weapons got a huge buff, which even makes them useful to non-explorers if you use rails.
-Power Draw: -20% (2.4) -> -40% (3.0 beta)
-Distributor Draw: -20% (2.4) -> -35% (3.0 beta)

Apart from the missing damage buff and reduction in integrity, lightweight is nearly identical to efficient for Plasma in 2.4. With the -40% to thermal load for certain experimentals on rail guns, Lightweight rail weapons are looking pretty awesome for my armed explorer builds.

G5 Armoured PP's w/ "Thermal spread" are basically the replacement for small G1 low emissions powerplants
-Heat Efficiency: -20.8% (-12% without "Thermal Spread")
-Power Capacity: +12.0% (This is the real selling point here)
-Integrity: +120.0% (well for exploration ships not needed, but will be great for other combat builds)
-Mass: +20% (not great, but barely perceptable for 2A/3A PP's)

My explorer DBX in particular wants both of these, but my newly purchased FDL is also after the lightweight buffs. [money]

To be honest I'm quite enjoying that there is a gap. It may actually mean they are fixing the bugs reported in beta. It never really sat right with me that we had the betas then instant release with only a small percentage of bugs and issues fixed. Hopefully this way the initial release will be even smoother than its been with 2.3 and 2.4 <- Comparing to say 1.2 and 1.3 releases.
As for why can't they leave beta open, well, I'd guess that servers are expensive. Not sure but it can't be cheap especially since they outsource to Amazon.

Actually I am enjoying the quiet period to downscale time in Elite, and have a bit freed up for other titles. Whether or not 3.0 launches soon, doesn't really account for whether bugs are being fixed. Frontier is notorious at this point for adding last minute, and entirely untested changes into the live build; and then taking a break (well earned, for sure, but still). With often comedic results.

Either way, the breather is nice. Bit more time elsewhere. Is grand.

I do hope this time around the forums are a bit more at peace with what we get, wait who am I kidding.

Either way the ED mojo is still missing from my game time, think it was Fallout Four being on sale for a tenner and now two years on the mods and DLC will keep me busy for somtime to come. Good thing being though when I do jump back into ED so many things have changed its a breath of fresh air to the game.

It’d be nice if they at least left the beta servers open until the drop date so we could keep playing with the new stuff and get a head-start on finding bugs for them to (maybe) address in the two or three mini-patches that follow every major patch release.

Is there another beta due? I'm confused. I want 3.0 live! ;-)

But I would expect there is quite a bit of work for Frontier to get through to bake the final result and release it on the live servers:

They need to - at the very least:
1) fix the final adjustments from 3.0 Beta release 3
2) Add in any code for features they had suppressed from beta [perhaps more Thargoid story, or something else]
3) undo all the "beta testing" special code (such as one uber engineer)
4) retest
5) build for other platforms (consoles etc) and test
6) size any needed adjustments to servers
7) prepare live roll out
8) do roll out testing
9) adjust live servers
And then, and only then, roll out the live 3.0

Promptly followed by promised of an early emergency patch for something FDev have forgotten, whilst players make 400m credits per hour...

I would expect that actual task list to be many, many times longer.

My money's on them announcing the 3.0 release date in this Friday's newsletter. I'm going for 27th February.
