Horizons Where is the Data Core of a Crashed Ship?

Ok, so last night I decided to act on one of these tip-off messages (which I've previously ignored). After much fiddling around trying to get to the right coordinates I finally found the wreckage and went for a drive around it in my SRV. I found a heap of canisters around it but I couldn't find the actual data core which I was meant to scan. Nothing was coming up on my radar for the data core. Am I doing something wrong? Was I meant to scan it from my ship, perhaps?

It should appear as a contact at least - check the left hand panel. I did one of those tip-offs a few weeks ago so my memory's a little fuzzy, it was on the ship itself i think. It wasn't hard to find anyway. And yes, you should be able to find it in your SRV.

It's commonly in the Ship itself (larger Crashed Ships take a little driving around to get within in Range of it) - but if more than 1 are present, not all of them have Data cores.

So it's not uncommon to see i.e. 4 wrecks but find only a single Data Core to scan.

Ok, thanks guys. I might head back out there at some point and try it from the ship first.

I tried one, found the data core, would not scan, so a lot or running around for nothing. Not doing another anytime soon. I also tried it from the ship, no data core was seen. In fact I did it twice, as the connection crashed while I was doing the mission.

I've done four so far, and three of them were very straightforward. One of them was a crashed T9, and there was no data core to be scanned. A lot of good cannisters, but no core. I even boosted onto the ship to search the roof, but there really was nothing. Maybe that's the one you found?
