Where is the digital manual?

A manual almost by definition has to be a last minute though. To cover the actual game rather then the targeted game.
To cover what's in it, and to not cover what's not.

I dunno...I kinda think it would be better for them to wait till Jan on this. Maybe post-wings.

Last minute was on the 16th. They haven't got things sorted because the game wasn't ready for launch. I know launching too early is common, but that doesn't make it okay.

If you mean this link:

then it clearly states that this is for the premium beta version of the game.

What am I doing? Where am I?

Welcome to Elite: Dangerous, Commander. Don't worry; there are tutorials and training missions available to help you through the first few hours of the game. Head over to the official Quick Start Guide, it's a great jump off point for new pilots. For more in-depth information, have a look at the game manual.

No information anywhere in those links to explain upgrade modules... Thank goodness there are so many people on these forums answering questions and making youtube vids to help. There are so many excellent people playing this game and helping others. The community is keeping the frustration down but information is really lacking on several topics.

Indeed - whilst I was pleasantly surprised to find the guide that halo jones 101 directed us to, it's still only a quick start guide - I'm hoping there will be much more than that in the promised "Digital Players Guide"

I do wonder what you guys are expecting from the game manual. For most games it's a flimsy thing that introduces a few core concepts and is hilariously light on detail. We have the internet nowadays and the amount of information easily accessible on how to play this game will severely exceed any manual put out by Frontier.

Yep---- if you have played for say a week how many pages of text would it take to cover what you already know.

Although I may take FD to court over the lack of 5 pages of warnings about epilepsy and tennis elbow that I have not had. Let alone the impact on my husbands Hrmmm private life that I was not warned about

After the newsletter it looks like they have pulled a fast one on everyone that has pre-ordered, The merc paint and pirate decals are available to people who have bought the game today. Insurance is no cheaper. They have said we have had all ships but all I have is the Eagle they said we would get 1 of 5 ships. well if the eagle is one of them what are the other 4?

yes...let's publish games without manuals! bah...manuals are soo overrated
let's clutter the forums instead with the same questions over and over! seems a perfectly good idea to me

One thing I would like to see is more stats on modules. Trying to upgrade a ship isn't very straight forward. I've read of several people screwing up ships by pick modules that don't work. Yes, some of the basic information is there, but sometime the few stats they share in game don't begin to explain why a shield generator c4 is better than a d4. Costs a lot, draws more power, but everything else that you can see is the same.

Pfft manuals, what real man needs a manual? :p When I were a lad and microcomputers were still new fangled things you got real manuals with games. Great thick jobbies. Those were the days.

i STILL have my SMS2 manuals with passwords/hints written on them.
i just dropped a tear

I swear Frontier are lowering the standards bar so hard and so fast that I half expect this game to be part of a South Park episode at some point in the future. Someone call Randy Newman!

I miss the days when game companies had enough self respect, and respect for their customers, to include quality documentation with their products. Anyone remember the glorious 192-page tome that came with Their Finest Hour: The Battle of Britain by LucasArts? I kept that manual in the bathroom for years.

With this game, the best information is provided by third parties. Pathetic.

192 pages manual, you're kidding... my 600 pages Falcon 4.0 manual from 1999 is still lying around on my desk ! :)
