Where is the Elite chatroom? Newb

Im trying to connect with other Elite players but all i see is forum no chat...and the messages i see are from 2010?!
please advise

There's LOTS of conversations going on here. Some of it could be in semi private forums, like the DDF one, or the Alpha one, but there's be a lot posted since 2010

Maybe wrong forum? Are you looking for discussions on Elite, FE2 or FFE or Elite Dangerous?

I'd like to see an official chat too though. Star Citizen offers messaging over XMPP so you will be able to join general chat or your guild chat with any chat client in the world. Certainly can't hurt
