Newcomer / Intro where is the map?

and how do i open it? how to close it? its not showing in the 'help' files and the tutorial is asking me to open it, without giving me a single clue as to how to do it.

this and many other lacking items are the reason i've uninstalled the game.

i shouldnt have to search my keybinds to open a map (note the keybinds dont show how to open it anyway).

I think the default key binding is M, though you can open it from the left hand side of the navigation tab at the bottom, above the system map option, this is on the left hand console of your ship. :)

don't install again

until you're able to navigate the menus in the first few screens on game launch... hint ............have a look in that pesky controls section

heh... tried that one first, the letter M does nothing. and i have no idea how to use the navigation tab either, none of these things were covered in the tutorial.

yah, thats not rude at all

so, aside from a severe case of snippy remark attitudes, the real answer is use the menu or the letter m.

the letter m does not work, if you'd like i'll reinstall the game and video it and my keyboard while i'm pressing m, to prove it.

there is no keybind for the letter m in the options. m is the default map key for nearly every game in the world except this one.

i will not reinstall the game nor will i gift it to anyone else, as the developers apparently decided they only want people without physical limitations to be able to control the ships. please read my reply to the post as to my new players opinions. i'll not go into them here.

m doesnt work and the tutorial does nothing for explanations, there is no learning curve, its a learning cliff that expects you to already know more than 80% of the games systems and be able to manipulate them.

Yeah, you're a lot more likely to get snippy remarks and a lot less likely to get friendly help if the tone of your writing makes the friendly people want to go find something else to read. I'm afraid you're going to have to live with that.

I have no idea if it is possible to bind a key to go directly to the map, that's not something I'd want (there are too many controls as it is for me to want some redundant quick map key). I'm about as inclined to go look to see as you are to install the game and give it another shot.

I don't know about that. The tutorial is how I learned to open the star map. I don't mean this in a hostile way, but you have probably made the right decision to quit now. Opening the map is one of the simplest obstacles that was in your way, it was going to get much harder.

Best of luck to you in whatever gaming you move on to.

To op

If you deside to reinstall the game then you have to learn how to bind different keys to different funktions.. At some point(upgrade) Fdev. removed the standart keybind to M(I don't remember when exactly) but I remember needing to go into options again and rebinding the "M" key to map again...
It fairly easy to do and takes a hole 5 sec to do... I'm not home atm. so cannot make a screenshot of where you find the MAP binding under options and I know there are a lot of bindings possibillities but just scroll down and you'll find somewhere...

And like some say if you want help don't whine too much and try to speake in a nice tone.. You'll get much nicer replies i'm sure... if you don't believe me try reading some of the other threads here on the "newcommers forum"

I've already hinted once .... bind your own choice to display the map ..... how about ..... .."m" ?

For the really lazy .... its down in the bottom 1/3 of the controls section ........ right next door to "display system map"

Options/Controls

In the section Mode Switches you can bind your choice of keys for both Open Galaxy Map and Open System Map. To close either map simply press the key a second time.

Ask nicely about the "many other lacking items" and you'll very likely get helpful answers.

I recommend you now re-install and get playing :D
