Where is the progress? I dont understand the game mechanics...

Where do i ask for a direction? I ask for some challenges. And sure I could go and try to fight an anaconda with just one weapon and no shields in the cheapest ship but when u look around in EVERY other game that exists, one goel is always to get better equipment to get better and fight the strong enemies. This is human - its part of our life to mess with better challenges in life... earn more money, drive better car, got bigger house, get stronger, got more free time, ... but its never the way u describe: you suggest me to throw my money away and then try to buy a very cheap car just because there is no better car than mine (just an example).

Actually, thats just part of a typical MMO like WoW or the afore mentioned Eve. This is based on choice and mechanics, there is no endgame to gear up for. My goal is to have a fleet of ships and explore

I don't think they had a design meeting and decided that adding challenging things for powerful ships to do would make Elite in to WoW.
I think that the game is lacking a lot of more advanced content because it's not finished.
But I could be wrong.

Basically you do random stuff to earn money to unlock cool gizmos, so you can do even more random stuff to unlock even cooler gizmos and somewhere between doing that you can feel proud for your achievements, only to realize later that you achieved nothing. But still had fun.

Rinse and repeat...kapich?

Your post is bang on the money. But please don't use the word 'unlock' ;)

You 'buy' gizmos and stuff IF you have enough money AND if you can find 'em.

No not really.
There are for example flight simulators (DCS) where you or your enemies will not get stronger.
Same for Grand Theft Auto, you don't have to level up to beat the game in singleplayer and nor is there something comparable in multiplayer. It is there just to be played.

Think of ED as a mixture of those two.
I hope that fits the right perspective :)

or maybe youre not quite playing it right

for all those totally missing the journey, for gods sake stop racing as fast as you can to mine, trade, bounty hunt and pirate and dust your hands and say 'finished!!' because youve missed the point entirely

You are missing the point. The point is there is no journey. There is a very sharp but quick learning curve then the difficulty flattens out. There is no meaningful progression of challenges. There are simply a few randomly generated NPC's, missions and USS' s. I get there is no "end game", but there is no journey either

Eh, GTA does have a form of enemy scaling - the more you advance in the story missions, the more enemies you go up against, with more powerful weaponry.. so that pushed you to "level up" as well (in gta, that's probably more like getting more guns and ammo and armour, though).

Hello pilots,

am i missing something, or is there no real progress in difficulty in this game?

I read a lot about how many options u have in the game and unlimited game size, but I miss one of the most important things in this game. Normally in other games u have areas/levels/maps/opponents/bosses that u can not win against until u got a lot better. It seems this is not part of the game and I fear that it will get very boring after a short time. So far i played for 3 days and it was a lot of fun, but so far, in every solar system and in every planet or spot I warped into, the enemies are the same. There is no challenge or no system/planet/spot that was too difficult so far and I dont even have special weapon and a ship that costs 140k.
I miss areas where u have to buy the best possible equipment to have a chance and when u survive u got a much bigger reward. Sure this should be for several areas with different difficulties. For example in EVE online u got 5 different mission classes from beginner to master (or even only for groups of experts). Then there are wormholes with different difficulty levels and so on. So it was always the goal to get better to be able to fly the next difficulty because of the higher rewards and more interesting fights.

Where the hell is this in this game? It cant be that I already am able to fight the strongest ships in the game after 3 days! Today I fought an anaconda and won...

Please tell me that I am just blind and dont see it in the game because if not, this game will be way too easy after a couple of days and there is not real motivation for bigger/better ships when i can do everything with the third cheapest ship and low class weapons already.

dr evii

your just blind (well you asked)

but so was I,

I nearly gave up 3 weeks ago but then relaxed into it

Its the long game -- its a long game

some people are just trying for the most credits or the biggest ship

its more than that ( I hope. but may be wrong)

its the start of a huge universe start by testing the mechanic

no bosses. no corridors. no must do tasks

just pretend its real

oh and do not use headphones you need a radio on to play this

So using your examples...GA gets increasingly more challenging as you advance, ED does not; DCS Blackhawk (I think it's blackhawk, the big combat helicopter one, it's the only one I own) the missions get more difficult the more you progress, ED does not...your examples prove the OP ' S point

@op have you become "Elite" in all disciplines? Have you reached the top ranks of Feds and the Empire? Have you cruised around in the Alliance systems becoming friendly?

Have you participated in any of the Galnet evens?

This is simply a stable launch version of the game and there is plenty to be getting on with. If you've peaked already, leave it for a few months until more advance mechanics are developed.

The "journey" is yours to make, Commander.

It's a sandbox.
There's no fixed guide to hand you quests, there's no levelling up (other than becoming better at flying of course), no finish line or time limit.
It's you, your ship and your imagination.

no journey? youre kidding me - an entire universe to fill your imagination!

youre missing the journey because youre not playing the game, like i said

Make your own challenge, take on an elite anaconda with a starting sidewinder. There's your boss you can't beat without better stuff.

You are right about what you say! For sure, you are not wrong! All I can say by way of a reply, is that it is early days yet, and hopefully things will improve as to challenging enemies etc. Although certain recent decisions however small they might seem to some, are not promising in that regard...... I remain cautiously optimistic. It’s a great game, with huge potential, but it is by no means perfect!

Everyone always seems to forget that the "Goal" in all Elite games, it to reach Elite status! In ED, you can get there in 3 ways, by trading, exploring, or combat. In prior Elites the only way to reach Elite status was by combat. To become an Elite Combateer. One of the goals of this game is to become Triple Elite. :)
