Suggestion: Upgradable core module called Ship Computer Core.
Description:
This Module provides a new configurable section under ship fitting where you can purchase and load new functions that your ship can carryout.
The Computer core would rank 1-6 based on ship class & E through A quality which would allow players more program slots and power effciency and cycle power for running programes.
Alternatively Various corps could be known for building computer systems with different specialisations (combat, exploration, market analysis Xeno) that would provide bonuses/penalties towards various software.
Why:
It seems to be a missing element for a Space ship.
And I would then suggest various modules should be repurposed into scripts/programs to be run by a computer system.
For Instance:
Additional functionality could be installed for your ship in a separate configuration slot in outfitting and Panel 4 of the Ship UI.
In additional to the core module I could also see pilots choosing to install additional option modules.
Backup Core (maintains critical ship functions if main core is offline / destroyed in combat) (consumes power only when main core offline)
Auxiliary Core (expands active program slots) (uses more power)
Memory Core (Hold more data, and allow for additional inactive programs) (use some power)
Entertainment Suite? (Provides payment bonuses for passenger missions. Give some purpose for the small module slots in a passenger ship)
I feel this is a more "realist" approach to how alot of these systems should be integrated into our ships, and it surprises me that a computer core isn't a mainstay already.
It would also open up a new avenue of ship weapons systems that would be more effective against ship electronic systems which don't seem to factor much into ship sub systems. Ie computer crashes, ship inactive and player has life support time to get it repaired.
Also I would suggest Em from various stars might also pose some risk by damaging or negatively effecting the core, requiring player maintenance over longer trips (ie shutdown/reboot? Land on a planet go EVA in SRV and tell ship to carry out maintenance while away, or just rely on Lifesupport timer.). Those is just a idle thought and might prove a bit tedious for the benefit of some minor immersion.

For Instance:
- Planetary Approach Suite (Standard Horizons expansion - NO CPU Cost)
- Automatic Docking Suite (should come standard and not need a module slot - NO CPU Cost)
- Prospector/Collection/Hatchbreaker/Repair/Fuel Controller. (since limpets are not specialised why do they need separate launch modules - Have one General Limpet Controller Module and all their functions are now controlled via the Ship Computer Core via specialised software.)
Additional functionality could be installed for your ship in a separate configuration slot in outfitting and Panel 4 of the Ship UI.
- Wake Scanner / Kill Warrent / Cargo Manifest Processing (purchase better software to increase usefulness of module)
- Data Store storage upgrade / filtered data. (set limits on data via data panel)
- Material Filter software. (hide selected materials from contacts and HUD via the material panel)
- Firewall / Anti-Intrusion software (when FD give us Electronic attack systems)
- Antiship Hacker Scripts (different scripts allow for different intrusion options when FD give us Electronic attack systems)
- Ship Autopilot upgrades
Hotdrop you in SRV without landing
Hover pickup SRV
Orbital insertion and approach to Surface Base. - Xeno Analysis Packages. (Software related to Thargoid content, detect/decode transmission, analysis alien objects.)
