Where is the space station enterance?

When flying into a star system that has a space station, it is sometimes hard to discern what side of the space station the actual entrance is located at?

How is the best way to figure this out rather than flying to each side of the space station?

In the original Elite, the docking entrance was always between the planet and the space station. Is there a similar rule of thumb to follow in Elite Dangerous, and if not, how is the entrance best located?

Thanks in advance

Watch it for a bit to figure out which axis it is rotating around, then look for the face that is rotating anti-clockwise.

I just look at the spinning. It is is on one of the sides that only spins level, which narrows it down to 2, and normally you can see one of those sides which narrows it down to 1.

I wish it was like it was in previous games then it would be easy to find the entrance since it always pointed towards the planets.

If its spinning downwards go right and visa versa.
And yes it really should face the planet but that's another thread.

Why? I'd think it should face either prograde or retrograde, so it's visible to ships coming in to dock. Normal ships, that is, not our superpowered hot rods that can just ignore orbital mechanics, because we have any amount of DeltaV available :).

DBOBE said that the dock isn't facing the planets as the side facing the planet would have the best views and the people who would live on the station would pay the highest prices for that sort of view.

So its in the least safe place from attacks and debris. Also the most used route between the planet and station now has additional navigation to perform.
Still not sure what side will face the planet it seems to be on the rotational sides (maybe wrong on that). Thus leading to a rotational view of the planet and space sickness. I would prefer to live on the outer rim of the entrance pointing towards the planet watching it slowly rotate, docking ships and laser pirate show every so often. But them I'm wrong as its not this way around.
Sorry OP off topic.

I don't think they were there until PB2, but the stations now have green and red nav beacon lights on the outer corners of the front and back. Red is the rear, green is the side with the docking entrance. They are hard to see from a distance though (it sometimes helps to use the 'radar focus' zoom).

[edit] the front beacons appear to be blue and green. I need to check the back of a station tonight.

There is! Literally! :D

Use the rule of the right hand. See chart below and replace relevant text with these:

- Fingers curl in direction of Station rotation
- Thumb points in the direction of the Station entrance

:D

This one has never failed me! And very useful in all walks of life, not just magnetism... water taps, bottle/can opening, taking screws out (or in)... you name it! :p

Ah yes, Fleming's Right Hand Rule (generators), not to be confused with Fleming's Left hand Rule (motors) of course.:p

The best way I remember where the entrance is as soon as you leave the station by the exit, the entrance is directly behind you :)

Pretty sure FD have said that the stations facing away from planets is an error, and they should be facing the body it orbits as per the original series.

Will FD catch us out soon and change it? :p
