Where the Hell do i go now?

Hi all.
My first toe into the game was last week. Completed the tutorials and then got released into the world. My issue is...what the hell do i do now? I’ve a rough idea that theres a mahoosive galaxy to get out into and that trade/mining/combat are a thing, but i haven’t a scooby on how to implement any of it. I’ve got as far as leaving a station, exiting mass lock and aligning some crosshairs to make a jump to a system i haven’t a clue about as per the tutorials. Theres some guff about materials to trade, bounties to hunt and transporting to do but theres very little at the station that actually points me in the right direction as to how to complete what i’ve signed up for.

Help.

You had a look at the mission boards in the station? They offer various things that supply a direction of sorts.

I’ve had a scout about, and i’ve seen theres materials or whatnot that needs dropping off at various places. Do the light years limit your ability to go as far as you need too? If so, is there a way to filter things that are applicable to your ability, so to speak.

Have a look at online videos and posts and see what suits you, there is alot to do when you first start out .

Just remember the two Golden rules-
Don't fly without a re-buy, in laymans terms Don't spend 2 million etc. on a ship leaving yourself without the ability to pay the rebuy cost (insurance) as you will go back to a sidewinder.
and
Don't travel without a fuel scoop. remember KGBFOAM (scoopable star types) your map can be set to this.

Yes and no. If you open the galactic map, have a dig in there. Look for a setting that plots the most economical route, you probably cant jump 30ly in one jump now but hitting that setting you’ll do it in many jumps. Keep an eye on your fuel. As Bongo says, find the data courier missions, they get you started.

The guide to ED is a hardback book, about A4 size. It has “Guide to Elite Dangerous’ written on the front. Inside are 1600 blank pages. Here you write down your mistakes, this is how you learn. It’s an A4 hardback so that when you make the same mistake again, you can hit yourself over the head with it.

It’s a steep learning curve, in the dark, with enemies waiting. Have fun.

Do data runs until you've enough for a bigger ship. An adder or type 6.
Go mining.
2 mining lasers a refinery to process the ores. And cargo space. Lots.
Collector limpets and a prospector limpet the latter A rated.
Each module in ship has a letter. A is generally best D lightweight etc.
Mine for anything initially.
You will also need a detailed surface scanner to scan the mining rings around the planets which may or may not reveal hostspots which are self explanatory.
Platinum gold tritium painite etc are all good to sell.
Set yourself up on a website called inara.cz
Link your frontier acct to it.
Mining will make you alot of money and collect raw materials too like carbon nickel phosphorus iron etc.
Try to modify your ship to A rated modules like your power plant and shields and distributor etc.
Dont worry about pew pew.
Mining is a quicker way to earn credits without firing a shot.
Play in solo. This way you avoid open mode pvp.
Avoid interdiction by NOT playing mini game merely drop throttle to zero effectively surrendering and when you drop out of warp boost away quick as (install a chaff launcher and heatsink bind em to keys) and once your out of mass lock and fsd cooldown you plot a course to a neighbouring system from navigation panel on left.

Good luck
Don't forget to stock limpets and don't fly without a rebuy!!!

I believe there is a squadron of Xbox players with a Fleet Carrier that offer advice, support, and opportunities for new Cmdrs. Especially regards mining. You should try and reach out to them and see if they'll take you under their wing.
And they offer great "know how" about "how to NOT build ships" :D

Uh what??? Lol. Lot of stuff to go through.

Grab a cup of beverage, and read through the lore- see what interests you and look for that.
I'm going to second this! I'm in the middle of checking out the INRA sites, in order, for the first time (Playing on PS4 first time around, I just went straight to the Jameson crash site without checking out all the bases and getting the 'build up'. I feel like I'm experiencing so much more this time!).

OP - https://canonn.science/ - it won't help you 'playing' the game, but will give you some great places to check out and how to find them!
