where the smeg are black boxes?

I have a love/hate relationship with the game and thought the "scan" gameplay was the worst, but this find a black box mission is god awful. Waiting for a USS to spawn is crap gameplay and all I'm getting are convoys and weapon fire USSs.....I'm presuming degraded emissions are where I get black boxes from as that's where I've found them in the past, but I have no clue. I even popped into a weapons fire USS and killed the chump who fired on me, no black box.

Try honking the advanced discovery scanner, it usually reveals the mission planetary body location. Then when yu get there you should get a USS in a different colour which is the mission USS.

If you don't have an advanced discovery scanner, scan the nav beacon (not the navigation marker, the actual nav beacon object, you need to drop to normal space and scan it like you scan a ship).

1. Enter target system
2. Honk ADS (or scan the system's nav beacon)
3. Go into range of the target planet from the scan/honk
4. Wait for the mission USS to spawn

Agree the waiting around for a USS to spawn is bad... discovering USS needs to be a more interactive activity.

To make it more specific: The bottom left panel on your HUD gives you an indication in which "place" you currently are. If it displays the name of the target body you are supposed to be at, you are at the right place (obviously).

Cheers lads, I'd done the scan and was flying around the correct target body, tried again just now and nice blue mission USS turned up. It would be good to have known how exactly the game was going to tell me it was a mission USS before.

For what it's worth, if the mission USS isn't spawning I find:
- leaving and re-entering supercruise, or;
- varying speed every minute or two;

... can trigger a USS spawn.

I tried that just in case earlier, even logged out and back in! 2nd log out did it. Although if I'd known the sod in the Anaconda would hound me I wouldn't have taken the mission! Almost lost my shiny new Python.
