TL;DR fix already existing game mechanics, be more actively involved with your games community and fine tune your C&P system
Alrighty cmdrs, I have been playing elite for well over a year, been to a number of major areas in the game. Seen thargoids scan a megaship, been hyperdicted, been to burnards loop. Got stuck and back peddled my way to the bubble after several manually routed jumps out of the permit locked area. Burnt myself out on bgs work, got most of the engineers unlocked. All the while thinking to myself, this game is both HUGE and beautiful. But....
I have come to see that the QoL patches that are put out, don't... What's the word I'm looking for, ah that's right.... Patch. I have wing mates and faction mates that are coming across server disconnections, mission boards fail to load. CZs are broken as , saying that the bgs mechanic is broken would be a major understatement. To be completely honest, this game is riddled with more bugs and problems, that at one point it was measured to NMS when it first launched.
Now being a gamer and knowing a general sense of what goes on behind the scenes, I still will look for bugs and minor glitches (Always fun to see what happens lol), but this this case I have come to see many different bugs and glitches in game, many of which were one offs. Others not so much.
sighs to be completely honest, I'm disappointed. I have come to notice a pattern. Great community managers that actively talk with their games community, game turnes average but still better then base line. Community managers, hell no active communication with a games community, leads to alienation and slowly but surely. The game that was once praised so highly is now dead with servers shut down.
I get that it's expensive to produce and run a game, and no doubt is that price higher when you have a game as large as elite. But seriously Fdev, your gonna turn away your largest player base, pve and casual players. Bust out patches that focus on the already existing game mechanics, new content. I'd rather a working game with a few minor bumps in the road (the odd bug here and there) but bugs that cause the mission board to fail, CZs not properly spawning, properly filled, or aren't able to complete said CZ objectives, to me is considered game breaking.
Great you got new players all set up, starter system, new ADCs and new SC assist as well, awesome. New player driven community goals/interstellar initiatives, sweet. But where are the patches for the already broken game mechanics? What about the new mechanics that you've implemented? (eg system happiness mechanic). This community has many things, but QoL isn't one of them. To me, it's like your throwing "new" content out when your clearly ignoring other problems just cause they are lower on your ticket list, (just an example) compared to those that complain about ship balance for pvp.... Alright, but what about everything else that effects the game in major ways?
Talk with us, read r/elitedangerous on reddit, look at your Facebook page, any of the elite dangerous communities, or even the lesser know bgs discord ( 500+ cmdrs talking to each other trying to figure out what's normal and whats bugged).. Be transparent, engage your community. Listen to both pve and pvp players. For sake, provide a proper C&P so that more people are inclined to be in open.
Here's a game that has one hell of a C&P system, comes from a game called black desert online. Originally on pc but is slowly being ported over to consoles ( xbx being the first port).
You start out as a neutral party among a large world, but you gain karma via quests, hunting, crafting, trading, speaking with notable npcs. Now after you hit level 50, you are forced into open pvp, but the caveat is. You can flag for pvp or not. That leads into the C&P system. You see if you attack and kill a player that's not flagged for pvp, you lose a ton of karma. As you lose more and more karma, you start to lose access to npcs, which means learning new skills, and other important factors become impossible to gain access to if your karma is low enough. Now once your far enough in the negative karma, you are attacked on site by guards that swat God tier players. Towns and cities pretty much ban you from ever entering again.
The other side of that is if a player is attacked, while not being flagged for pvp, and they defend themselves. They are automatically switched to pvp.
For Elite you could use your rep with the Pilots federation as a measuring method. You lose rep when you kill a nonpvp flagged player, you lose a ton of rep. Kill enough your then banished to only anarchy systems, but have a mission available to boost your rep up enough that you can enter non anarchy systems but with a escort from atr unites that would put any player through their paces.
... My rant is over but my message is still the same, fix the bugs that are present and make a REAL C&P system that actually gives a thrill of killing the innocent worth while.
