Horizons Where to find Geological Sample(unique) for mission?

Hello guys!

I am having trouble finding Geological Sample(unique) for a measly 200k reward mission. I have been scouring a specific planet for POIs for hours now, had like 10 POIs appear but none of them had Geological Sample. All had been standard Data Point, Automated Extraction, Salvage Wreck POIs. Anybody could give me a guide/screenshot anything what am I looking for exactly and where? All the misison told me is that its in the Xincan system and I need an SRV. So I just randomly picked a planet then using the >2km method with my ship scouring the POIs. Am I doing this right and I have been just unlucky the past few hours or do I need to trigger something very specific?

I'm sure that when you first approach the planet it will have a circle on the planet where to look, also written in your left hand panel. Just fly to this point and let it do it's thing.

Mick. :)

Dude, you don't get to pick random planets for mission specific unique samples. If your agent hasn't communicated the exact planet by name designation, then as soon as you arrive at the star system, activate your discovery scanner. Either way, it should already appear on your Nav panel by having a globe icon next to the designated planet.

Go to said planet, you will see a POI out of the ordinary down on the surface before you even get to orbital distance. Follow it while your ship recalibrates the true location of the samples you need.
Hope that helps.

Thank you very much for the information. Sadly this is not in the mission description. I have reread it quite a few times. SO I will need to use my discovery scanner first then I shall see the planet in question and the POI as well. Unfortunately cannot play atm because my GPU or Motherboard seems to be dying [sad] so gonna take the PC to a service tomorrow.

With those missions, you fly to the system it tells you. If you have an advanced discovery scanner, scan the nav beacon, otherwise go to the nav beacon, drop out there, target the white dot on your radar and keep pointing at it for about 5 secs until you get the blue message. Open up your system map, where the right planet will have a mission marker on it. Fly to that planet and then fly around it quite close. Eventually, you'll get a message telling you that the target has been found. You can then target it from your nav panel if you don't see it directly. If it's a surface mission, you don't get the message, so keep checking your nav panel until you see something like "mission search zone", then fly to it, get a bit frustrated while it jumps to a new location nearby when you get close. After about 4 jumps, it stays still, so you can land and get the stuff.

If the stuff is floating in space around the planet, you drop out at the location and scoop it up, but if you mess up your scooping and hit the canister, it'll disappear leaving you short. Fear not, just log out and in again and supercruise around until it spawns again.

I hope PC servicing goes through with positive results. Let us know.
On a side note, this game has a learning curve, so keep pushing yourself and seeking forum help...when I started, many helped me in this community very fast.

i stopped doing all those go to a, scan b to find location c missions, they are far to buggy for me or they where, not sure now after new patch. Some times i would get a update as soon as i entered the system, other times nothing even after scanning a beacon, and then when you do get a location the POI will not always spawn.. meh now i just go pew pew instead :p

Scanning the Nav Beacon is now optional. A simple discovery scanner activation should do it or it'll happen automatically. No bugs that I could find, I've been doing these missions for about a month now.

Thank you all for the information and the concern regarding my PC. The reason I took the mission is because it gives a modified embedded firmware which I dont have any and I have seen it is used in a lot of grade 5 weapon recipes.
UPDATE: Thank you all for the information (on my spare old PC which can barely run the game :p , new PC is still in service :( ). Finished the mission successfully!
