Where to find (mine) Painite please?

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me what kind of places I should mine to find Painite? Is it 'Rocky' rings or 'Metal Rich' or 'Metallic'?

Thanks very much.

I found some in a pristine metallic ring the other day so they should be good. I was lucky enough to accrue 19t of the stuff amongst other ore, so was quite happy with that.

you have to go to a pristine metallic ring or belt to find painite. And as the missions say,"finding painite is a pain",its much more rare then palladium/platinum inside those rings. Pristine is hard to find in center of colonized space, whats your location ?

You can find Painite in major metallic rings as well, although the yield is rarely more than 15% per fragment.

the yield is dependant on quality (pristine, major, common, depleted), in pristine its possible to find a for example platinum roid, wich drops chunks that are about 50% each

I believe a developer mentioned that both Painite and Osmium are far more common in Resource Extraction Sites when they were introduced (along with Low and High Intensity RES sites). Additionally, asteroids in RES sites take longer to deplete and spit out more chunks than 'wild' asteroids do. I'll get the most chunks from an asteroid in a HIRES, followed by Low and Regular. Never tried to mine in a HazRES, but I imagine it's similarly rewarding.

I can generally find at least one 30-50% Painite roid when I mine in a HIRES site. This gives some incentive to mine in said sites, but at the same time one must weigh the risk of pirate attack when they do so. My Asp pulls over a million in with each 64 ton load, and generally close to half a million in bounties over a 30-40 minute period. While I had to sacrifice some cargo capacity for a good shield and a SCB, I am capable of effectively knocking out 'Condas and Pythons while at the same time efficiently sucking up ore (3 collector drones).

Generally I go for the higher quality stuff, and vent the lower quality ores while I mine. I survey a LOT, and only mine off of rocks that are primarily one of the big earners (Osmium, Painite, Gold, Platinum, Palladium, Silver), with trace amounts of other minerals. I'll drop an asteroid down by about 20%, and then quickly go to my refinery and vent whatever amounts of Bertrandite and Indite/etc before I get a full ton of it, and then knock another 20% off the 'roid before repeating. In this way, I inevitably end up with a hold exclusively containing the valuable stuff, and it doesn't take up any extra time, as I'm simply spending the minute or two I would wait for my drones to mop up after the asteroid is mined out mid-extraction.

If I see any opportune targets, I'll go kill them. If I'm scanned by a bad guy, I'll turn him into slag.

It earns decent income (Around 2-3 mil an hour) and is by far the most engaging and least mind numbing way of doing so I've found. It is, in fact, fun.

It's in Metallic rings. It doesn't have to be pristine like some are saying in the thread. You get a better haul from a pristine ring but you can get it from any Metallic ring.

quick question, do i only find painite in prismarine planets *are there even prismarine rings??, never found them* or are metalic rings/planets also a candidate?

Seems to be some misinformation flying around. Yes, painite can only be obtained by mining. And yes, it is only found in metallic rings. Pristine metallic rings will up your haul. As will using a prospector limpet.

Google pristine metallic, plenty of links to where to find them. Or do what I did, go on a mini exploration and try to find your own. Then have some nice relaxing fun. I love mining!

P.S. We really should have our own mining sub forum. Please.

Delkar system. Got pristine metallic rings. I found a good load of Painite, platinum there.
This....great location for Painite (I mine in a cutter and have mined a lot of Pristine Rings but seem to always return to Delkar)
Once you have carried 400 tons of Painite in Delkar Haz Res....there is no turning back....scary as hell but I have never had more fun....I couldn't take the intensity and stopped my 512T goal and cashed in....lol
Great Pristine Ring locator if you have not seen it yet.... http://edtools.ddns.net/index.php (*Cmdr VicTic has done an amazing job with making this information accessible and usable)

*only other system I have had really good luck in is 58 Epsilon Herculis (3 Pristine Metallic Rings) but it is quiet a trip to get out there.
54.89% Painite - I have never seen this before and have never seen it since....

Hi, JRB.
Now I have seen your post.

I mine in Metallic pristine ring systems, always go to the A ring, that's the ring area close to the planet.
I only mine Painite, Plat and Osmium. BB normally asks for these elements and pays a lot for them.

Going to Res sites is risky as these are really for Bounty Hunting.
Fighting with tons of valuables is pushing the envelope:)

Also your ship needs to be able to fight, as once cargo is full you nearly always get indicted on the way to sell.
