Newcomer / Intro Where to get a good PC for Odyssey in the UK, and specs

Hi all,

My PC is coming up to 4 years old but was never that great as a gaming machine. I'm not competent enough to upgrade components or build a new one, I just want to order one from a reliable supplier who knows their stuff.

The most important thing is running Odyssey well at Ultra settings - if anything can.

Ideally a PC with Windows per-loaded and licensed to me.

Where would you suggest I start looking?

All suggestions gratefully received.

You can look for the big guys like HP or Dell. I dont know the popular pc shops in the Uk.
I would visit your local PC shop and do business with them.

Unfortunately it's PC World and they don't have a great reputation! That said, we got my kid a decent 3060 laptop from them (she only plays Roblox!)...

I think Alienware belong to Dell. Their stuff looks good, but expensive, however I don't mind splurging a decent budget (several £K) for quality stuff.

Just fed up of struggling with low graphics settings...

There are others available...

Not sure what you are looking for ... then use the build guides to direct you, e.g.

Personally I'm running an i5-8400 / RTX 3080 and get 4K ultra, if you don't want 4K you can get away with less.

Well, no one will agree with me online but I ordered an Alienware Aurora about a year ago and it’s been great. Obviously wasn’t cheap but a I got a discount through my work that put it within the ballpark of other pre-builds for the same spec at the time, and I got a free keyboard and mouse via the Dell Rewards vouchers.

More recently, I’ve order individual components and also a pre-built Motherboard / CPU / RAM bundle for my son from cclonline and have been pretty impressed with the prices and delivery times from them. The little pre-built motherboard was done well - CPU thermal pasted and the cooler fitted ready to just slot into the case we already had. But they do full builds as well and are definitely less expensive than full price at Alienware!

I looked at some reviews for the sites suggested and PC Specialist looks like it has the best long-term track record. They also have a largely unoffensive configuration page and seem to gouge the least.

So, I built a high-end system with their configurator, as free of waste and extraneous nonsense as possible, but not cutting any corners where the corners would actually matter:

There are several components I would swap out were I building this system myself, but these are the most rational options available from PCS. Everything less expensive has performance or usability compromises, everything more expensive is a waste of money. Anything equivalent from any other reputable shop was, on a cursory glance, significantly more expensive.

Sheesh … that’s a monster!! Not convinced a 4090 is essential for Elite but I will admit there are times I wish I had something a little more pokey than the 3070 I have.

A very decent PC picked by Morbad!

I upgraded my system to a 12900k with 64gb of ram a while ago, recently I upgraded the GPU to a 4090 and got a LG 48" OLED.

The system runs EDO exceedingly well. At the moment I'm still playing around with settings, so not sure where I'll end up. But I'm really enoying it with maxed out settings, 4k at 60Hz with 2.25 DLDSR oversampling. The game has never performed and looked so good for me!

Seems like it would have no problem to do 4k/120Hz but it won't do 8k/120Hz.. :D
