Where to go exploring now?

Howdy fellow explorers and non-explorers :)

I've been exploring quite a while and I'm looking to go out into the great black once again. The problem is, I can't set myself a worthwile target.
I've been to Pleiades, payed a visit to Orion and all the nearby nebulae. Been to the California Nebula.

I was thinking of going to Sagittarius A but these days it seems a very crowded place?

Anyone has any fun ideas on where to go exploring?

At the risk of sounding like a cliché: The destination is not as important as the Journey.

Yes, the core is full of visitors, but getting there and getting back you'll likely discover ELWs and, er...well, there's...er...er...

OK, essentially the term "exploration" at this stage really means "looking for Earth-likes".

Maybe some Neutron tagging in one of the non-main sequence fields ? also you don't seem to see many people hit the other side of the rim - yes its 75kly or so but, hey who needs to dress, wash or eat ?

Sag A seems like a good starting point - but personally I will be making my way to the edge of the galaxy on my next trip, just to stare into the abyss :) So how about trying to find the outer-most system in the galaxy?

Go to the small magellanic cloud in supercruise.

... or neutron stars... or black-holes... or or or. have a look at oephaidst nebula and sorrounding nebulas. most of them should not be visited at all (i turned to the center before shortly before reaching it). quite a lot of neutrons around there, too.

The Journey and what you find along the route is the best bit. i tend to set a destination to start at, usually the nebula or waypoint is already discovered, but the bits inbetween are where i find by prizes.
I set out with a goal at least,, sometimes its been finding my own blue giant to tag, another time i wanted to tag my own black hole... after a long journey i was on way back home before finding two of my own.
ELW's they were nice but i got too good at locating them after a while, i got bored. a good money maker,,,
Now i'm intrested in the Ammonia worlds. After following the thread Sounds of the planets make on system map, i'm investigating Ammonia ones now... theres quite a variety, from cold dustball types, all the way to Jovian Ammonia worlds
Last one i came across was what i would imagine was an ELW for Ammonia. continents, oceans of ammonia and carbon-Ammonia based life..very curious sounds from that world/.
Could be a Thargoid like world.. TLW's instead of ELW's.

Thargoids.

Go look for Thargiods.

When you find them you could sit there and get blown up. Stand there and get blown up. Jump up and down, shout at me for suggesting this, then get blown up.

There's always the chance of derelicts and Thargoids, both of which may be sneaked into the game without announcement from FD . I hope.

Thank you for all the replies gals and guys. I'll try to plot a multi-month exploration route for all the stuff :)

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the journey to my desired destination. But I found the hard way that it's best to have a target in mind and set yourself for it. Otherwise I'll end up wanting to go "somewhere near Orion" and finish in the Pleiades :)
A journey I planned for a week or so took nearly a month to complete. Damn I hate the thought "ohhh I see a big star/black hole/shiiinies, let's go check it out!" :)

Sag A seems like a good starting point - but personally I will be making my way to the edge of the galaxy on my next trip, just to stare into the abyss :) So how about trying to find the outer-most system in the galaxy?

Now that's a goal worth to commit my Asp to. I just might include that goal into my exploration ;)

Hmm but then I'd loose all my exploration data and become very very very.... angry ;)

Maybe,,I'd try scanning running and video them thargoids if I did, even in death and losing data, would be greatest discovery so far in game
No one has seen a thargoid. Yet

The Crab Nebula? 7,000 LY and there's a pulsar in the centre. It's quite a way out as well, so you can sit and look back at the edge of the galactic disc.

Did you already venture behind Orion? Seagull Nebula, Monkey Head Nebula, Heart & Soul Nebulae? The last is the final destination of my roleplay, so you might find them interesting too.

Lagoon Nebula, Trifid Nebula and TRAIKAAE AA-A H2 are relative close to each other and could make for a target. They are about halfway to NGC 6357. The last one is a good distance above, so you'll get some multi-angle views on the surroundings. You'll also find the Omega Nebula and the Eagle Nebula unfar from it. In the Eagle Nebula, the Hubble Space Telescope photographed the photo Pillars of Creation, so you might have something in that.

STRANOA AA-A H3 is the highest nebula I could find yet, so perhaps that?

etc etc.
