where to park your fleet carrier/mobile base?

So it's going to be a bit of a conundrum. Do you want to park in high traffic areas so your carrier gets some external use ? Basically shuffled up next to already existing bases

or do you want to park your base somewhere interesting outside of the bubble? Where?

My answer is somewhere outside of the bubble. Maybe near bovomit.

The reason why is I dont think parking it in the bubble next to tons of alternative bases is going to result in you actually making a profit, but it will lead to lots of tedious micro-managing of inventory and costs. Since they nerfed the crap out of upkeep, I should have enough credits to last a couple years out in the black with 0 income if i wanted to and that's not even working with the tens of billions a bunch of players have accrued that could probably deal with upkeep until the game shuts down now.

Maybe if they did some signifciant culling of existing stations so that there's a better niche for carriers in the bubble, but until then....out in the black for me and Utopia's Sim Archive.

Who else is hightailing it? or do you think it's worth it to stay in the bubble, especially now that you wont need to use the FC to grind credits to keep it running?

Me personally? I like helping folks out, so if I could I'd probably drop it off somewhere on one of the deep exploration run routes that folks usually take. Somewhere WAY out in the boonies, so folks have a quick place to stop off. It would take forever, but I think it would be worthwhile.

I would say this totally depends on the owner's intended use of the fleet carrier. If it is used as a mobile base, I don't think there will be much parking going on. Used as a trade carrier it would likely also move around between different systems. A mining carrier would likely park near a mining hotspot to fill up and then jump to a good sell location, saving many trips back and forth and making it in one single jump as long as the hotspot is not too far removed from the bubble.

Better use the FC and not park it. Why get it then in the first place? Unless you want to live in a far of system.

I'd say parking it because there's no need to create a grind or continue to accrue credits for lots and lots of players who have been working up to get them. We dont need more credits.. so there's a viable option to just make this your player's home ... while potentially offering some services to other players if they happen to find your ship.

if you're moving it around, where do you plan on moving it around to? I know I for one am taking a huge ..huge break from mining so I have no interest in doing that for anything but fuel ...i dont need more credits and I think my ship would be lost in the sea of options if i were to stick near places to sell things.

Does not sound like you need a carrier, I'd save your credits for bases.

if bases (and we dont know if that is a thing for sure) comes out in a year, i'd certainly look into that ...but i could just sell the carrier and get most of the credits back in that case and still enjoy the space home in the meantime. It's not like it takes a long time to make a few billion credits to recoup any loss from the sale.

are people planning on using as BGS pushers? Allowing your existing bgs activity to be made easier? or are you using them for some other purpose like some role playing?

i'd hope you wouldn't be spending your time just grinding credits with them... that doesn't sound fun (at least not via trade and mining) nor would it be necessary.

If I buy one (and I'm not as sure I will as I was before the beta - a combination of upkeep costs and the thought that there might be something better to spend my billions on in the New Era, which we must now start hoping will arrive when Frontier said it would) I might do what I did in the beta, which was park it next to a CNB* and offer refuel, repair and restock plus ship and module transfer and storage facilities as a public service - not interested in running a shop.

At any rate, that's my fallback position if nobody smarter than I am comes up with something more exciting that I could do with one.

* It got, I think, two visitors, one of whom kindly showed up to test the commodity market (thanks again, @Northpin). Would it have got more if restock had actually been working in the beta? 🤷‍♂️
