Newcomer / Intro Where to reliably find outfitting modules

Hey everyone,

I've got a question regarding the finding of specific outfitting modules, in this particular case a 5D fuel scoop (or any fuel scoop with similar capacity). I've used both INARA and Elite & Dangerous Roguey to search for recently updated stations near my current system that would sell advanced fuel scoops, but after actually visiting 10 Stations that had been updated within the last few hours I still didn't find what I was looking for (actually, all the stations I visited only had class 1 or 2 fuel scoops at all). My question now is: is there a more reliable way of finding specific modules? Because just jumping around systems for hours and hours hoping to at some point get lucky seems a bit like a waste of time to me. In fact, I did already equip one of my ships with a higher grade fuel scoop (quite some time ago though) and I certainly don't remember that being anywhere near as exhausting as it appears to be this time.

Any form of constructive comment is very welcome, thanks in advance!

Oh, and on a side note: I play on PS4, but since that at least doesn't matter for commodities and trading (EDDB etc.) I don't suppose that it changes the accuracy of INARA or Elite & Dangerous Roguey - or am I wrong there?

I've always found INARA to be quite good.
I assume you're choosing a size 5 slot before you search the modules available?
Not choosing an existing scoop in a size 2 slot and looking for a replacement?

Or I Sola in Brestla stocks everything - prices slightly higher, but saves the faff (if yuo don't have access to Shinrarta Dezhra, which is similar, but you need a permit)

(I Sola is a surface base - needs Horizons)

If you are ELITE in something, anything, then the most reliable source of ships and modules is Jameson Memorial Station in the Shinrarta Dezhra system.

I’m an Elite explorer so have access to Jameson but I quite enjoy finding a bargain in Li’s backyard (and the resulting cheaper rebuy is a big bonus on one of the big ships.) It’s perfectly feasible to use the in-game filters to find a very good bet....but yeah, Inara and EDDB are brilliant for making life easier.

I didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing.

Make sure you consider the update time when you use these services; telling you the station sold this module a month ago isn't of huge use compared to two hours ago.

I'll echo Geodanger's answer, EDDB.

Just input the module(s) you're after, your current location, and LYR if you want the 15% discount. Personally I focus on results no older than 24 hours. LHS 20 is the most common result for me, and I've never had false info.

I'll second Ray Gateway. Not just because its 15% off but it's also home and I'm biased. Can't remember specifically if the 5D scoop is there but I've not had trouble so far finding what I want.

Same universe, same outfitting.

Also - if you have issues finding things then it's nice to say where you tried - that way we can check if it's just you're not in a that can fit the modules...

Another vote for Ray Gateway (or Lembava) but if you want to find somewhere local then look for high tech, high population systems using the gal map filters. These are the systems with the best stock levels, the two afore mentioned ones (particularly Ray Gateway) are particularly good due to the 15% discount on ships and modules.

Diaguandri, Ray Gateway.
109 Piscium, Ising Dock
These are my two goto stations for outfitting. They have the Li Yong-Rui 15% discount for ship hulls and modules and between them stock every normal module I've ever looked for.
They are also nearby a guardian tech broker for outfitting guardian modules.

Given that you get 100% back when you sell modules, if you buy it from a discounted system and sell it somewhere else, do you make money? :)
