It seems more than likely that some of the new ships to emerge this year, perhaps even the much anticipated Chieftain, will be locked behind an Alliance rank grind. So I was wondering: is anyone already looking for likely sites for an Alliance equivalent of Sothis/Ceos or Hip 8758/Hip 8444?

Did my grind at at Alioth, but that was just to get friendly/allied, but that was over 12mths ago. I don't think the new ships will be rank locked. The Alliance do not have ranks

Vaporous mists and general speculation (I certainly didn't come up with the idea). Also, the lack of an Alliance rank ladder is a rather glaringly obvious missing piece in the game.
Hmm, I don't believe that will be the case. Unless Fdev are planning to also introduce a top level ship comparable to Cutter and Corvette, Alliance ranking doesn't make sense to me.

Also, FDev want to deliver new content this year; but they'll also want to keep the best stuff for paid expansion packs. An Alliance ranking system would be an easy bit of free "new" content that would really only cost them the development of ships that they were going to add anyway.
Rank grind is not content.
But rank grind towards content is timesink.
Space Station Rescue missions, seriously, I went from neutral to almost allied in about a week. It's GREAT for grinding alliance rep.
Just like the Vulture and Eagle "Federation ships".
But most superpower ships are locked behind a rank restriction. Being behind a rank-lock is what makes ships real "superpower" ships - ships only available to those who served for the navy auxiliary of that superpower.
Why? For a long time the medium sized Federal Dropship and the Imperial Clipper where the only rank-locked ships.
And FDev said they will introduce a few Alliance ships.
We will see, but I suspect the "better" alliance ships will be behind a rank-lock. Not that it really matters as superpower ranks are completely meaningless and just a grind-wall.
