Where's the grind?

I've noticed more and more threads using the word grind. Yet I find myself oblivious to any repetitive tasks like trading etc... purely because of the environment I play in and the beauty of space and its contents presented to us.

I've played a few games where you have to grind but this for me is the first game were the word grind does not have the same meaning and literally hours can pass by before I realise it.

Thanks Frontier for helping me to re-imagine the word grind :)

Yep when i play I'm too busy having fun to think it's only x amount of credits until i can get the next ship.

I think if your focus is maximising credits to get to the next ship then it will become a grind because the sole reason to play becomes credits.

Me - I am happy flying around in my basic Sidewinder seeing what happens picking up a few credits here and there and enjoying the galaxy.

people think they have to get everything down to profit/hr but if you just fly about and change roles between explorer combat and trader as you pass opportunities you can make plenty of cash without ever doing the same run twice

I totally agree and I've now come to the point where I stop reading any thread as soon as they mention grind or grinding.. to me it shows plainly they are approaching the game with entirely the wrong attitude.

I flew a single trade route last night - spotted an unexplored planet en route, flew out to it, saw a real hive of activity around a beautiful ringed planet, dove down into the rings 60km from an extraction zone, engaged a wing of 3 AI sidewinders getting my ass well and truly kicked, escaped into SC, spotted another unexplored moon and discovered it had an outpost selling my original cargo at a hugely better price.

If you're grinding out a single route you are missing the entire game.

Yup, "Grind is a state of mind".

Players that want to 'win' by having the best kit first will no doubt end up grinding, then complaining bitterly about it.
..the rest of us will carry on enjoying the view and taking our time, mindful that we're playing a game big enough to last a lifetime.

I must admit, I am guilty of doing some grinding, but it was to get to the ship I wanted to play in. Now that my cobra is kitted out, I am doing a lot of mission work and having a lot more fun!

Me too. However now I have my multipurpose Cobra I enjoy doing the same sort of grinding trade stuff, mainly as I wait for pirates etc to interdict me... Also I am more inclined to do a bit of exploring to go to new worlds and see what nice upgrades I can get my sticky mitts on.
