Which animals do you use more often in your zoos?

For one reason or another, I have some animals that I place quite often in my zoos. They don't necessarily coincide with my favourite animals (for example, I love polar bears but most of my zoos don't have them for obvious reasons). So I was wondering which animals from each region you use more frequently when you create your zoos. Here's my list:

North America: bison and timber wolf
South America: tapir and anteater (most of the times sharing the habitat)
Oceania: saltwater crocodile
Africa: lion, zebra and sable antilope
Asia: tiger (one or the other depending on the bioma)
Artic: reindeer
Europe: -

Exhibits: either the frogs or the iguanas

What about you?

North America: bison and Dall sheep (also one of the best surprise addtions in a DLC and still a favorite)
South America: tapir, anteater and Galapagos Tortoise
Oceania: saltwater crocodile, Cassowary
Africa: lion, zebra, Aldebra Giant Tortoise and giraffe
Asia: Gharial and komodo Dragon
Europe: -

Exhibits: Iguanas and the spiders

So, lots of reptiles

I guess for me:

NA: grizzlies (same as you, would use polar bear, but cannot make any nice looking enclosure with the size requirment), reindeers.
SA: jaguars, anteaters
OCE: kangaroos, crocodilles
Africa: warthogs, aardvarks, flamingos, pygmy hippos
Asia: komodo dragons, peafowls
Exhibits: Green iguana and boa constrictor - so far used them everywhere

But overall I try to use all animals in different zoos. Exceptions are very similar animals that I have one favourite and use that - eg. bengal/siberian tiger - I like to use bengal because it looks better and I like their biome better.

Same here. Not often used in most of my zoos but I like the overall look of the Bengal Tiger and it's habitat more in some of my zoos.

I only got them in 1 of my zoos and it took a really long time to use them. I understand the requirements but when you zoom out - it's pretty obvious that you got polar bears :D

I kinda got away from dividing my zoo into continents. What I use also depends on biome of the zoo itself and since I usually build in taiga and temperate regions I mostly use:
Lion arguably most famous zoo animal.
Tiger probably second and use either or subspecies.
African Elephant love these guys.
Flamingos name a zoo without them.
Gorillas one of my fav to use.
Zebra use in every zoo
Giraffe same as zebra.
Reindeer find myself using them a lot lately.
Ring tail lemur usually use them often.
Every other animal is a toss up and just depends what I’m in the mood to build for and what I want in at the time. I don’t usually pick all my animals ahead of time or plan my zoo in advance. I also try to build as realistically as possible and use foliage from the biome I’m building in.

Surprisingly, among the African animals, the nyala is the one I use more often than any others. I saw them for the first time at Wellington Zoo many years ago and adored them.

I don't tend to use a lot of N. American animals. I use the timber wolf as a European animal most often (Canis lupus lupus). For S. America I try and use all of them - the capuchin above all others, then the jaguar, then the tapir and the giant anteater. I never use the llama (no other farm animals, so it makes for a pretty sad petting zoo).

I guess if I was to make a list of animals that appear in literally all of my zoos;
- Nyala.
- Giraffe/zebra/springbok/ostrich.
- Lion.
- Ring-tailed lemur.
- Gorilla.
- Indian elephant.
- Indian rhinoceros.
- Giant panda.
- Japanese macaque.
- Bengal tiger.
- Jaguar.
- Capuchin.

I try and use as many animals as I can. With the polar bear, I just turn off welfare and ignore the space requirements. They're large for a lot of animals. When I use the Nile monitor, for example, I try and build a microhabitat that could comfortably fit in a reptile house.

Turns out you are right. Kind of a strange deal we’ve had flamingos in my local zoo since I was a little kid and have never heard of any quarantine problems as most zoos if not all in the US have a species of flamingo.

Crazy in the US they’re probably just as regular as a lion in zoos. Our local zoo actually went without lions for 3 yrs but has always had flamingos. Are they a threat to the native wildlife in NZ? I’ve never heard anything bad about them here but I’ll admit their exhibit isn’t the most pleasant smelling in the zoo kind of a skunk odor I do notice the maned wolves tend to have a similar smell.

The threat is because of the risk of importing diseases rather than direct effects on wildlife. For the same reason, penguins, other than little blue (fairy) penguins, are held in quarantine safe Indoor facilities, not out in the open.

My more commonly present ones tend to be more of the ones that I can put in larger, shared exhibits

The big african safari exhibit with the zebras, giraffes, ostrich, warthogs, gazelles, wildebeasts, and buffalo is both fun to watch, and tends to work well as a draw for guests.

Bison and Pronghorns is another.

Having a larger Capuchin exhibit with Tapirs and Anteaters included works...the Koala and Kangaroo the newest addition to the pile.

Really wish there were more combo exhibits that were possible to pull off easily...

Most of the single animal ones vary heavily by what I'm wanting to do at the time.

They're not a threat as such, they just aren't a zoo staple here.

My habits with animals in my zoos are somewhat surprising, actually. Most of the time, I like animals in PZ a lot that I do not care too much about in RL Zoos. And it is embarrassing, how many species I, after alomost one year, never used yet. Can you imagine I never had one singe giraffe in my zoo? And that I am a huge fan of apes, but never had Bonobos? And that Orang Utan is my favourite animal, yet I only integrated them into my first zoo?
So here is my list:

North America: Timber Wolf, definately. Though my favourite NA animal would be the bison.

Africa: Lions in two zoos, not in Unity. Gorillas and Nyalas, Don't know why, I tend to reach for them often.

Asia: Indian Elephants. In every zoo I ever had. And in RL zoos I watch them just shortly and go my way, it's funny. I just love the sound and look of these in PZ.

Oceania: I only have them in one zoo so far, but if I go with my planning, it is the kangaroo.

Arctic: Again, due to my planning mostly: Reindeer. Dall sheep comes close. I would use the polar bear more often, but the requirements...

Europe: If you want to do that stretch it would be Flamingos. In ever g Zoo.

South America: Tapirs. In every zoo. I wish we had Malayan Tapirs though.

And in addition, animals I absolutely do not like in my zooa:: African wilderbeests. They breed like rats and annoyed me to death in one of my zoos. Tha calves are cute though, so maybe they get another chance.
