Whilst the Empire is fraught with indecision, internal conflict, useless obsession with playing with power do not under estimate the sheer numbers of supporters.
The evil Federation has but two corrupt leaders, we have many.... The Alliance has but 1 corrupt leader and is regularly top grinder in the powerless play monotony..... ;-)

Yes the Feds mug shot is the most unattractive.... but you should have joined the glorious Empire where honourable Imp Slaves would keep you mug of java eternally filled! ;-)

Empire sold out because FD only had a small amount of them made 
That's not a terribly accurate portrayal since the neutrals/money grubbers decide those more than actual faction/power players.
Not to mention alliance players more than likely taking fed side.
