Ship Builds & Load Outs Which fixed weapons for a Pve Viper MKIII?

Having lots of fun flying this little ship the last couple of weeks, learning FA off. I 'm at the point now where i can pretty much keep enemy ships in my sights and stay behind them most of the time. So i was thinking about upgrading to fixed weapons on the Viper (using gimballed 1 beams and 2 multicannons atm), or at least use the gimballed beams for shields and use something fixed and powerfull for hull.

So any suggestions? I really would love the idea of not rearming (plasma slug?). Should i go with railguns or plasma accelerators? That't the build i am currently using

I prefer efficient beams in a viper but that's just me. However that 2D FSD with 5.27LY jump range is a mistake. Hit a good guy, get a bounty and you won't have the jump range to fly to a system with an Interstellar Factor to clear the bounty. Nor will local system stations let you refit a larger FSD per being wanted. Not good. Perhaps a typo in the build?

I just use it for a lighter build,I use another ship or another fsd to travel. But I see your point, if you get a bounty and not a fine, or if you have notoriety and can't even pay the fine (which I often do), it would be a dead end indeed if there wasn't a shipyard around. Probably will go back to a big fsd.

Personally, I like to use small fixed beams and gimballed multis on my Viper III and Viper IV. Fixed beams are quite easy to use on maneuverable ships, you just need to have enough juice in the distributor to keep firing (efficient beams + charge enhanced/wepon focused PD help with this). Having the gimballed version of the multis gives me the option to fire them alongside my beams.

This is my PvE Viper. I have fixed small efficient beams with thermal vent, and a pair of gimballed medium multis with overcharged and corrosive. I've got enough speed and maneuverability to keep out of the line of fire of most bigger ships, enough shield and hull to give me ample opportunities to run if everything goes sideways on me, and enough jump range to get to the nearest IF when I inevitably do something stupid.

Occasionally I'll swap out the multis for a pair of gimballed shock cannons when I want to have a bit of fun melting the hull off of small ships [yesnod]
