Newcomer / Intro Which key to use to "select Auto Launch" at Mawson Dock?

OK this is a REALLY noob question but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere else. I'm trying to start my training, I'm on station at Mawson Dock, and I'm using default mouse and keyboard. I'm told to "select Auto Launch" . So I arrow down to that option, but no key or button seems to select it ("Enter" is the obvious choice, but does nothing). You're welcome to berate my stupidity (!), but can you help an old man out?

Before you go anywhere , go into the controls menu and switch mouse X axis to yaw. Put roll on A and D.

Thank me later.
I recommend same for mouse but roll on Q and E. A and D is for strafing! And also, if you wanna try Flight Assist off (let you aim different direction from your ship travel) turn on relative mouse.

I'll thank you now. Thank you! I've seen this tip posted elsewhere too and it seems to be generally approved, so I'll be playing around with bindings when I become more familiar with the scope and mechanics of the game. For now I'll stick to defaults. I think I first played Elite on the C64 back in the mid 80s and I seem to recall there were not many customisation options then - how times have changed. One thing I may do later, if the game grows on me enough, is invest in a joystick. I'm sure there's plenty of advice about that on these forums.

I recommend using the various tutorials when setting your control bindings for two reasons one it doesn’t cost anything if it all goes wrong and two because you get the same situation each time so it is easier to spot what works best for you.

As far as joysticks go my recommendation is a HOTAS with lots of buttons and mini-joysticks.

Makes a lot of sense to me - testing like vs like is always a solid approach. As for HOTAS setup, it's going to be constrained by budget but I see there's plenty of posts to help me!

It must not be a Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog, but a simplier Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X or even a Thrustmaster T Flight Stick X (my choice) do the job much better than any mouse+keyboard...

More kudos to the100thmonkey. I did the suggested controls remap - and what a difference. Highly recommended. Completed training relatively easily and am now a Commander. Onward!
