Which kind of ships should fill the void between the Anaconda and the rest ?

Ship prices have got me thinking. We have a nice array of ships up to the 200 million credit region. 200 million would be an all A combat ready Python with standard armor, 180 million would be a T9 all A. These are top end, disregarding that you can push the Python to 300 million using mirrored or reactive armor. Then there is the Conda. 180 million is an E-class armed barebone. For a pure trading build you get away with around 200 million, if you stick to D-rating. Getting the ship up to A however is at least 500 million, which can be pushed close to a billion with armor. So basically you can say that the Conda costs at least 2-3 times more than any other ship in similar configuration. That is a huge void between 73 million and 141 million buying cost and between 300 million and 900 million maxed out.

What kind of ships could fill that gap ? The one obvious one is the Panther. I think it will sit in the middle there somewhere and won't cost much more than the Python fully kitted out. A-speccing trading ships tends to be relatively cheap in this game. The next one I could see there is a specialized large explorer, one with a minimum jump range of at least 25ly when fully outfitted and around 40ly when run in lower exploration spec. That means A6 FSD for sure and a base weight around 400 with a smaller overall size than the Conda and less internal space. Hardpoints maybe one C3 and 2 C2, no more. It would be an explorer and not some super-range ultraheavy combat ship.

Any other ideas how to pupulate that gap ?

And then there will be Federal Corvette within a month. I wonder how much would it cost? Id say most likely it'll cost at least 50% more than the anaconda. Kitting that ship will neatly add to my end game goals.

I think the FdL was supposed to fill in that gap between Python and the Annie, based on its cost when it was initially added to the game. Now its price got nerfed, maybe FD will add something in that particular price range(70~100 mil base purchase cost). BTW, having two ships in a same price range is a little bit silly, IMO.

IMO, Explorer ships should have more than just a big FSD and a lightweight hull. I mean, the Asp and the Anaconda do that greatly already. I'd be willing to introduce exclusive equipement for the ships depending on their purpose. Specialized ships would have access to specialized equipement and would have the right stats to complete their purpose. Multirole ships would still be as it is now, without the special equipement (good at everything, excellent at nothing).

Honestly, I don't think so. The Corvette will probably be in the same bracket as the Anaconda, but specialized in combat. When you look to others multiroles/combat bracket, you have the Cobra/Viper, the Asp/Vulture and the Python/Fer-de-Lance (and Adder/Eagle if you want). Each time, the combat ship is cheaper than the multirole of the same bracket (though the Vulture and the FDL got changed). The Anaconda being a multirole, I think the Corvette will be a little cheaper.

This is just my opinion, I could be totally wrong.

A lot of people seem convinced the Corvette will be bigger than the Anaconda. The description given was that it would be the biggest FEDERATION ship in the game... that doesn't mean it would be bigger than the Anaconda, it just means it will certainly be bigger than the Fed Dropship. Nothing else is known yet.

Historically the panther was the largest. (Well technically the griffon I think) so that won't fill the gap.

Most likely contenders are the covette, and the courier to fill the price gap.

As to the role that's needed? Hard to say, without getting things blurry. Maybe as the OP says, another explorer style craft, that's not either of the two above though

In previous elite games the Panther Clipper was the largest ship available, the Anaconda is less than half the size of it.
