Best Motherboard Manufacturer?

Looking for a motherboard for gaming and general use.

I hear that Gigabyte, for example is to be avoided.

Anyone suggest which manufacturers are the best.

Perhaps a scale of ranking?

I have used Gigabyte motherboards almost exclusively for a number of years now with no problems. Others mileage may vary.

Hard to say which are the best - but I've used Asus mobos in my last three builds.

I've used ASUS motherboards in just about every PC i've owned since the first one i built in 99, they do a good selection to suit all pockets and build styles.

A mechanical keyboard from the likes of Cherry, Filco, Das Keyboard etc would be best all-round buy.

The first board I've had that I can still remember was an Abit BP6. It was an amazing board, it ran dual overclocked Celerons. Having a dual CPU back in the day was a big thing and I loved it. Well, except for the cheap capacitors which killed one of the Celerons, about 2.5 years after I bought it. I still have it, it looks weird with it's bulged capacitors and scorched inductors.

Then I had an MSI motherboard with an Intel Pentium 4 Prescott which gave me nothing but trouble. It used to restart the machine about once a day for no good reason, and I never figured out why. I hated it, got rid of it and vowed to never buy anything MSI ever again.

Then I got a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 rev 3.3. I've used it for years (since about late 2007) and it would still be running in my main computer had it not been for Elite Dangerous and a need to upgrade to be able to play the game properly. I still have it and I'm about to buy a PSU for it, put it in my old case and carry on using it as a second computer. I'm hoping to get at least a few more years out of it.

Because my last Gigabyte worked great for so long, I decided to get another Gigabyte. This time I got a H97-HD3, and I've been using it since Premium Beta without any problems. So, I'm happy.

I've used Asus in my last two builds - the oldest one (6 years) has never had a problem and the new one is my ED machine.

Asus build instructions are very clear, and I like the AISuite software.

1. Asus - expensive, but worth it
2. MSI - go for the plain, non gaming/OC ones (unless that is what you really want)
3. Gigabyte - any of these are fine - they do a lot of incremental model updates though, so I always looked for a V2.x onwards.

This is after 15 years in IT distribution + my own personal experience.

A guy I used to work with was always amazed why people would put a really expensive CPU in a cheap board. He would say it was "like building a house on a foundation made of crisps" ;)

Another Subjective Question

Another question that is down to personal preference, along with Intel/AMD CPU or Nvidia/AMD GPU :D

Personally I used to always use ABIT Motherboards , the last one I used was the IX38 Quad GT .

Since they left the motherboard arena I have always used ASUS.

Always used ASUS, I went on a recommendation on the TUF sabretooth series which is great as the whole thing is covered with carbon fibre heat sheilding which also keeps dust out of sockets etc.

I've built at least 20 Pc's for myself and friends over the last couple of years. Every mother board has been Asus from entry level to ROG types. I've only seen one fail yet and that's because I had it overclocked 30% for too many years on air cooling.

I have been using ASUS for some time now (since DFI bit the dust to be precise), but I am really [Redacted] with the way they (don't) support their mobos firmware after a couple of years...

I've been using an Asus now since 2007 with no problem. But I don't have any experience of others, since I used Laptops previously.

But so far, the numbers would seem to be with Asus.

Asus is a very good brand. They also make excellent graphics cards. Generally the bundles are of quality. Otherwise Asrock, MSI are very well depending on the models

i have a feeling that if this thread had a poll ASUS would be the clear winner, now all the OP has to do is decide what type of board? a top level board such as the sabre-tooth? or a more entry level board?

then there is the AMD/Intel CPU question to answer.

Top level board, entry level board, Intel, AMD, no matter, Asus, always Asus, forever
