Horizons Which planets can you land on, and how do you achieve this

Morning all, i havent played for a while and have yet to land on a planet. What is the easiest way to identify which planets can be landed on and how do i land?

Thanks

It's planets/moons without atmosphere, they have a little blue ring round them like this :

Keep your speed in the blue area.
The DC works for bases on the surface as well.

For maximum fun, turn flight assist off.

Seriously though, don't. It's fine for docking pads - even those on the planetside bases - but landing with FA-off on the regolith is really, really difficult.

When you come out of orbital cruise into glide mode, it's helpful to point your nose so it's over the base - you will go into glide at an altitude of 25km, and drop out at 5KM (I think). If you align it right, you can drop out of glide and immediately request docking and engage your docking computer.

*edit*

I enjoy it. It's a little barebones at the moment, but so was the game when it first came out. As the season progresses, it will get better still.

... or in the navigation panel they have a blue symbol like a spaceship on the ground. If you have Horizons every ship you fly will have a Planetary Approach Suite installed. The actual process of landing is a series of stages:

  • Vertical distance ladder appears on the HUD
  • Enter Orbital Cruise
  • Drop from Orbital Cruise (like the transition when arriving at a station)
  • Glide
  • Normal flight
  • Landing
Check on Youtube for one of the tutorial videos, several of which have been produced. (ninja'd)

If you want to drive around on the surface you need to buy a Planetary Vehicle Hangar and a Scarab SRV which you can then deploy on the surface.

Make sure to check the gravity of the planet after Orbital Cruise has been engaged, anything above 0.8G and prepare for her to put on a few pounds.

"brill thanks guys. how is the horizons expansion. is it good?"

Personally I think it is amazing. Check out the "post your favourite screenshots" thread. Some of the vistas are spectacular.

It's just one of several great programming successes by FD to have planetary landings. It felt absolutely fantastic to do the first one, all the way down through orbital cruise, glide, watching the terrain materialize in great detail as I approach and then touching down on the ground, watching the dust fly up and hearing the engines wind down for the first time.

I fear I am taking it a little for granted now, but it really is a fantastic achievement and opens up a lot of game play and game play potential for the future.
