Which shields are better - B5 or A4?

Hi all,

Until I can find some A5 shields for my FDL, I've been using A4s but I've seen B5s at around the same price, but they're much heavier. Which is better in terms of protection? Thanks.

B5 is stronger by about 12%, probably not worth the weight.

I generally use a D5 + boosters. The FDL has plenty of utility slots.

If their shield numbers are correct, the 5B is significantly (almost 50 MJ or about 12.5%) better than 4A, though yes, as you note, they are also much heavier.

EDIT: A bit over three times heavier. But I don't think that 22 tons will really impact your maneuverability that much. I could be wrong; I've never flown a FDL.

To try out what is the best loadout for the FDL try www.edshipyard.com. There you can check out every aspect.
From real numbers B5 should provide more shielding power but weight can compromise speed and manouver capabilities.
Also jump range is affected by additional mass.
