Newcomer / Intro Which ship should I go for? (Very new player)

Apologies - a further thought - I would advise not doing away with the cargo hold entirely unless you are certain that you want to just explore, or just fight. The reason being, the gofer missions, take 4 tons of scrap here, or 3 tons of waste there (not the 'can you source x or y and bring it here) are an excellent way to pick up early crédits. Not a great deal of money of course, but its basically free cash. A couple of grand for a 5 minute job, plus you will get to know a few nearby systems: do they have Resource Extraction sites? conflict zones? do the stations have good outfitting or blackmarkets? This info is useful as you progress to other things. <br>

Moreover, remember that you can basically free-test-drive. As mentioned above, sell your modules back, then trade in your ship. Take the new one for a short spin and see how you like the handling/cockpit (note the Adder is not a central cockpit seat and takes some getting used to). You can always go swap it back and rebuy your old modules.

Having taken the route Adder - Viper, I'd suggest for the money the Viper is the quickest route into taking down bigger ships in RES's if that's your thing. The returns are pretty damn good and you'll have 2.5mill's worth of Viper in no time as well as a lot of fun getting there.
If you are still getting used to combat, remember a stock Viper's shields are at least a third stronger than a stock Cobra (almost double the Adder's), it's more manouverable and packs the same hardpoint setup. And it sounds bleedin' gorgeous....:D
