Which ships are you flying.... THE RESULTS

For a bit of a laugh I started a thread to ask Which ships are you flying...?

The votes have been tallied and results calculated, and I've grouped them by large, medium and small pad sizes.

Large:
18 Anaconda
15 iCutter
13 T9, Corvette
11 iClipper
8 Type 10
7 T-7
4 Orca, Beluga
Medium:
35 Python
30 Krait II
23 Asp X
18 Krait Phantom
9 FAS
8 FdL
7 FGS, FDS
6 T-6, Mamba
4 Chieftain, Challenger
3 Crusader
1 Keelback
Small:
24 Cobra III
13 DBX
11 iCourier, Vulture
7 Sidewinder
6 Cobra IV, Dolphin, Adder
5 DBS
4 Viper IV
3 iEagle, Viper III
2 Hauler, Eagle
Most actively disliked ships:
4 Anaconda
3 Vulture
2 Viper III, iClipper, Asp X, FdL, Beluga, Keelback, Python, Asp Scout
1 - I'm not going to list them
There were a few surprises there to my mind. The FdL and the Mamba got less votes than I'd expected, the Keelback got as many as one vote, and I'm surprised that the Asp X still ranked as highly as it was (in fourth spot overall) given the recent arrival of the Krait Phantom.

No surprises in the overall top three however:
1. Python
2. Krait II
3. Cobra III

So what do you good Commanders think? Did you expect to see the Anaconda in the top three?

I think many players use an anaconda only because is the best ship for some duties, but, they really don't like ana. They only like its capabilities, but they prefer to fly more agile things.

And there are also players like me, who hate being forced to use a ship because the game is so badly balanced (that mass...), that not using the overship for that duty, can made you feel like playing against the game, with a hand tied to the back.

More FSD jump for the Beluga, please!^^

Agree completely. My Python, Cutter and Conda are for making credits. If I want something that I enjoy flying it's the Cobra mk3, Krait mk2 or Clipper.

Kinda like me. iCutter and Krait Mk.II are the credit makers, ASPEx the long range explorer, but the pure joy of flying and adventuring lies in both the use of Cobra Mk.III and iClipper.

Good to see the icourier an vulture high on the list of smalls , 2 of my most lived in ships over the years.

Funny though its also present in the list of most hated ships (vulture).

Agreed. It's interesting to see that by far the most popular ships are the medium (and to some extent small) multi-role and exploration ships, and it was interesting to see the Cobra IV getting so many votes. Indeed no big ship came in the top five, if you factor in the negative votes.

I was delighted to see the Sidewinder get comparatively so much love - I still have one, which I use as my 'taxi', and it's always a joy to get back in to. I was also a bit surprised to see the FdL getting relatively few votes - but then, there is 'that cockpit'.

What is clear is that the 'Python-class' of ship is head and shoulders the most popular type of ship - at least in 10-pages of thread.

Most common comment in 'my top ships' list was 'Cobra III, because!', and my favourite comment (yes I read them all) was:

...Cobra, either Mark. If you have to ask why, you won't understand the answer. ;)

Anyway, a big thanks to all who joined in [up] - it was just a bit of fun - and I was trying to gauge the ships we routinely fly, rather than those we own. Now, where's my damn hula-girl bobblehead FDev?????

Why is the Vulture hated?
I think that there was a time, that it was the go to killing machine; but then the game evolved. So that these days it would seem that the Vulture, requires some Engineers, to make it what it should already be.

I tried one, a couple of years ago. Thinking it was the ship for CZ and combat ranking, but I just could not get on with it. I tried a beam and a multi-cannon and it just got too hot and then run out of ammo. So I tried a couple of Pulses and it was OK, but not really as 'impressive' as i felt it should be, after reading all the hype.

Good work: Enough said.

Depends on how you you're deciding on positions though.

I mean, 18 people might've claimed the Annie was their favorite ship but 25 people might've had, say, the Corvette listed somewhere in their list of favourite ships.
Does that make the Annie favorite or the Corvette?

If it was me (and, yes, it'd be a faff) I'd award people's favorite ship 1 point, 2nd favourite 2 points, 3rd favorite 3 points etc.
When all the ships are listed and the points compiled, the ship with the fewest points would be the overall favourite, accounting for all decisions.

Not sure if that'd change the results though. [where is it]

Still seems to show that the DBX is worth more love from FDev though.... and, in case my previous posts on the subject were misunderstood, a better bloody ship-kit.

There's a much larger database on this topic available at Inara showing both the most owned and most used as main ships. Yep, there are differences between those two.

That doesn't show "most used" though.
It simply shows which ship a player has set to be their "main ship" on the INARA site.

Also, while I'm at it, a look at the "ranks" stat's is quite interesting.
The combat rank seems to be the only one that FDev got "right"; with the distribution of players forming a reasonable bell-curve.
Trade and Exploration rank are significantly skewed toward Elite and CQC is (no surprise) skewed toward "No thanks".

Not true. The grey bar shows how many total of this ship are registered on Inara. The smaller yellow bar shows how many of those are set as main.

On one hand, i'm surprised so many fly the python. Flies like , not a good cockpit view, and doesn't do anything great. Probably due to just hype from players who never moved on to other ships. On the other hand, the sample size of your study is small. I didn't vote or know anything about the "election" as many others. So the numbers are not accurate. To elaborate further, I always fly in open, it's been a year at least since I've seen a player in a Cobra. Most of the players I run into are in Kraits, Annie's, Cutter's, Vette's, or AspX's.
