Which ships still have a unique purpose in the ”end game”?

Federal Assault Ship (Best all-round combat vessel)
Fer-de-Lance (Best assassination vessel)
Diamondback Scout (Long range patrolling capable of attacking small to medium targets)
Diamondback explorer (Budget smuggle ship/explorer. Best price-efficiency result)
Viper MK III (Best all-round budget combat vessel)
Python (Best combat tank. Best multipurpose vessel)
Cobra MK III (Best blockade runner, very budget explorer)
Federal Gunship (Best Budget firepower)
Anaconda (Best firepower (DPS))
Corvette (Best firepower (burst))
Cutter (Best Tank - max HP)
Hauler (Best taxi)

For when you ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, WITHOUT DOUBT, have to troll.
I think you ought to be listening to this while flying that thing [squeeeee]

As for the thread's question, I've done a few infiltration missions using a Sidewinder. Great little ship for sneaking up to a base, landing then deploying the SRV to do the business.

Being Elite a game that has not a clear end game point (I mean, like many other games have). I think the end game is really up to the player itself.

For me, at the current state (and taking into consideration that the game is still under development and new stuff is likely to appear, thus making a change of perspective possible), my end game ship is, by far, the Imperial Cutter.

I’m not saying it is the best at everything. In fact, I don´t think there is a clear winner in any of the activities. To understand this choice I need to say that I am big ship fun. Always been.

So, for me, the only real options are the three big ships we all know.

NAME
Gutamaya Imperial Cutter

SUMMARY:

For me, the best of the three biggest ships due to:

  • Impressive looks
  • Most powerful shields
  • Almost impossible to be mass locked by another ship (except another Cutter)
(This last two points make this the safest ship to traverse the space in PvP. You may be beaten at fight, but you¡ll surely make it safely to the station in this ship)

  • Best cargo capacity (makes it the best trader)
  • Decent jump range.

Overall, the best choice for traveling with safety and style.

BUILD
My ideal build is the following:
http://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial_...050437032f.Iw18ZZA=.IwBh1Mu8b2RA?bn=AlytanTOP

NOTES/ANECDOTES
I’ll use it to do some trading (probably rares), smuggling, bounty hunting and may enter the power play thing.

I have near the same build and noticed you use cannons too. I see Cmdr spreading a lo t of hate for cannons but I find that they're great for a quick power plant kill if you're patient, sub 800, and allow the gimbals to line things up before you fire.

Thoughts?
