Which system do you recommend?

I am about to start on a first colony, as I don't do BGS or missions I have no particular expectations about what it must do so I want a general purpose colony when it is finished.

Which if any of these candidate systems would you recommend if any and why?

They are all in an area with good views and to the side of an existing chain, they are not within range of each other and the first station is going to be an outpost.

Contender 2 : that 3rd planet is it a HMCW ? If yes, build on the surface a surface civilian port, and 5x refinery = CMM, Ceramic, Steel, Titanium

The other systems, Water World present, so far I think no ELW's, most are rock or ice planets I guess

I figured I would only colonize one system, ever.

I do BGS and I do missions and just about every type of gameplay.

I looked for a system with lots of variety and mining opportunities. I chose this one…

This one has the potential to keep me busy for years…

What do you want out of your colony?

To have a general purpose colony that isn't a complete embarrassment to me and is of some use to others and is somewhere interesting or with good views.

Do any of your current choices meet that requirement? Do any excel at it?

BTW I just found out about this, which might be of use to you, but I have not done more than look at the front page so far.

Generally, all of them look like good real estate to me.
Choice would probably depend on what you want to do.
(1) is more industrial at the 3-slot-planets
(2) is more extraction at the 6 slotter
(3) looks like refinery if the 5 slotter is rocky
(4) is bad for an outpost as primary, as one of the best planets gets the primary port.
Could be an instant refinery if the primary port loc is rocky (?), but should a get Coriolis or more as primary port.

1 or 2 would be my choices. I ruled out 3 and 4 because of the additional stars (and i'm guessing that the distances for those would make it less fun to colonise - I don't have a Fleet Carrier). If distance isn't an issue for any of them, for you, then 4 looks the most appealing (Primary port over a 4 slot body with additional orbital slot). I'd likely start with a T2 or T3 port too. If you're in it for the long-run, may as well build somewhere you can use from the get go.

If you care about the initial economy, the single most important thing for me would be to know what type of Body the Primary Port is orbiting (Rocky / Icy / etc).

Just to provide more information I forgot to add in the OP.

Contender 1 primary port over Metal Rich world.

Contender 3 primary port over Icy world distance 7,300Ls.

Contender 4 primary port over Rocky world.

Contender 2 is now being colonised by someone else.

My strategy is:

1. For my first system (many weeks ago) I chose a reasonably good system with +20 slots, several planets with lots of surface and orbital slots and a bit of variety within the system. It was a good choice, but of course not optimal. And in hindsight I made some poor choices, but overall its a good system. I have built 20 facilities including Coriolis and Ocellus. And it still has room for good additions.

2. For long term fantastic system: I reserved whichever system I think is better than my first build system. It doesn't need to be perfect, just better. I build a primary facility then leave it alone and start searching for another system that is at least 25% better and reserve that system. And so on... and so on... only choosing systems that are clearly better than the previous for whatever reasons. Eventually I have several good systems I can choose from.

The background rules around colonization are certain to change again. And players are going to discover what combos work best. And things that are a bad idea. IMO it is silly to waste the ultimate best system I find when the rules aren't set.

Edit: It is possible that the ultimate system is actually 3 really good systems in close proximity to each other. Each system has its own focus. Collectively they are fantastic.
