Which Tracker is "best"?

I've splashed out for a joystick & throttle and now it's time to look at trackers (and I thought KS was expensive).

I like EDTracker because it looks like it's an elegant solution to the problem. But, assuming bottomless pockets, which is the best tracker out there?

I love my trackir 5. I know some folks don't like the company but I had it before I knew about the issues. It works beautifully and I'll never fly again without a track of some sort.

Acier-

Track ir5 is excellent in my opinion. Don't bother with the " pro clip " version though, it's more expensive and the regular hat clip version works perfectly without the need for yet more wires and hassle.

STEM looks like it will blow the competition away and I have one on the way when released! I was playing around with ardiuno based IMUs using hatire and even mobile phones as a tracker before ED Tracker came along...

ED Tracker is so cheap it's worth a go and if it works for you you've saved a small fortune and not given money to a dodgy company!

Unlike an above poster I would recommend the pro-clip, depending on your situation. I mostly game with a headset and can't stand baseball caps, especially wearing one to game just sounds like misery.

Even if you are into baseball caps (god save you) wearing one with a headset would not be much fun I imagine. The pro clip clips on your headset and so the wires just run to your computer with your headset wires.

It's a decent solution and has served me well for about 3 years now, but can't wait for my DK2!

Totally true. I threw away my Tir5 clip because it was a headache to use it properly, and always fly with the hat. Of course, in the end is a matters of tastes, others may perfectly like it though.
And one more thing... Once you try a head tracking device for a flight sim, you´ll never ever fly again without it. Well, unless you have an occulus I guess... :)

Ditto on everything you said including the DK2. I've been using TrackIR since version 1 and the version 5 with pro clip works great with ED. Still can't wait for DK2 though :)

TiR5 is excellent. I use the Trackclip pro because I use a headset all the time anyway and I have the wires running together. It may look pricey but what sort of GPU can you buy for £150 these days ?

If you try it it would be all but impossible to go back to not using head tracking.

TrackIR 4 user here. I created the thread asking for early support of TrackIR many, many moons ago!

Works brilliantly well, and if you forgo the rather flimsy pro clip for headset, you can invest in one of these jobbies which only costs £2.99 and isn't as hot as a full baseball cap.

Only ever had TrackIR 5, but never regretted buying it. I use a cap with no top (visor cap?) with the clip on it. Nice and cool (for the head, at least, ha!). :D Could not imagine a simulator game (and some others) without it now. :)

No idea. :p

But if you got the cash to burn, sure. I think TrackIR is fine and allows you to still see around you (in the room, keyboard etc), while no doubt DK2 is great for those who want it.

It is a bit odd at first, turning your head and looking at the screen, but for me it was second nature in a matter of minutes. OR is no doubt far more natural to use, though, with head movements and that, but I don't even think or how I move my head wearing TiR any more. :)

Me, I doubt I'll get a OR ever. I need to see my keyboard etc, and, well, I wonder where Facebook will take it after those 4-5 years they talked about leaving it alone... :p

Think trackir is worth ordering if you have a DK2 ordered in June, late August delivery at best?

The value of that, only you can decide. TrackIR is certainly effective, in some ways has its merits above even OR (in that your not cut off from your surroundings, can see the keyboard etc).

If you have the cash, go for it! Maybe even look at a cheaper TrackIR 4 (as I use). If you can get it cheap then its worth thinking about as it works perfectly well with ED.

Same here, I also love my TrackIR5 and also use headphones so plumped for the proclip. I'm already anointed as a super-geek to wife and kids, wearing a baseball cap AND headphones would send them over the edge. The proclip works well and I haven't broken it yet after 6months of continued use, my headphones are wired so the proclip cable just runs along with them, no biggie for me.

I'm looking for a new set of 'phones, ideally 5.1, that work with the proclip, so if anyone's got any suggestions I would love to know.

:)

I use TrackIR 5 - I will 'never' go OR - I don't like social sites sharing all my info - just my 2 cents

The Rift probably wouldn't fit over your tin foil hat anyway :)

I don't think signing up for a facebook account (I also can't stand facebook) is going to be required to use an Oculus Rift. They just pumped a lot of money into it because they can see it paying off and VR being useful tek for them in the future.

To the OP. I imagine there will be times when I don't want to wear the rift. But I could never fly without some kind of head tracking again. I think I'll still get good use out of Track IR when my DK2 arrives.

Maybe when CV1 of the Rift arrives it will finally put the nail in TrackIR's coffin. But until then I think resolution and comfort factors might keep me from using the rift 100% of the time.

ED tracker, so easy to use on the desktop or laptop, until I can afford* Oculus Rift.

*the wife and kids can go without food for a couple of weeks in the interest of keeping ahead of the Jonses :D
