Hard to say really without some decent final info on both systems.
But, the Vive seems to be getting rave reviews.
When I was at Gamescom, I was left with the feeling that FD felt the Vive was special

Understandable. I'm on the fence, but leaning more towards the Vive as well. I am preparing myself for getting both, just in case the CV1 somehow becomes superior (not holding my breath) given its much later release date.

My guess is FD is going to go all in with the Vive, but still have support for the CV1. How good that support will be remains to be seen, if the aforementioned scenario should occur.

I thought about getting both but it would be like having two hotas'. Pointless as both will do the exact same thing.
I'll probably buy the first one that comes to market. I'm getting desperate for an upgrade here.

Since 1.4 tracking works a little better now I will reserve judgement. Up until 1.4 the Vive has my vote.
Lets wait and see who launches with the Vive. :)

Couldn't agree more. It's way too early to call. The reason the VIVE looked better at the show might have just been better marketing. The software and hardware that supports the headset makes a world of difference. Letting people see their hands in VR will enhance the experience no end, but that ability will also come to Oculus as well.

I'm not in the financial position to afford both headsets and so I'll be thinking long and hard about my choice. Luckily there are many months to wait yet so there's no need to rush any decision.

Wasn't aware that any other VR headset existed and was compatible with ED. The Vive doesn't look like it will be quite as high a spec as the CV1 though.

That said, which ever one works the best overall and the one where I no longer need to change the colours away from the stock offering is likely to be the one I'll buy. Having a green HUD is better for the DK2 but I do get tired of all the other colours being wrong.

I didn't vote. Not because It's a bad question, but because I don't have the final specs for these devices. I'm interested to see how others feel though, who may have more info so my answer is a bump.

I would buy the VIVE after exhaustive research the lighthouse tracking is from reviews virtually lag free and incredibly accurate (according to many independent game devs) and people who have tried/tested the VIVE have been reporting 10 mins+ of presence and that would translate to a great seated and standing experience,
Why settle for seated only VR (oculus CV1 at launch) when you can have both.

not to mention the steam tie in which is massive and the open nature of the dev software (expect to see VIVE to Oculus touch ports when touch controllers arrive in June 2016).

I can only see VIVE as a win/win if the price on the retail kit is right.

I really want to get up and walk around the conda's bridge :D.

I'm far for been a rich man so like all stuffs I buy it will be the best compromise between quality, and price.

I'm thinking both at this point, but the priority would be the Rift for me. It looks like the Vive's targeting standing experiences as much as sitting and that implies a lot of the compatible titles are going to involve more movement than I have room for, alas.

Also interested in the super-high-resolution ultra-wide-FOV StarVR kit, if only to see if it can deliver what it promises. Though at this point I can't tell if they're actually planning on releasing a saleable product since they seem so caught up in trawling the planet with their Walking Dead experience thing.

It all comes down to the demands of the unit.

i.e. If the Rift CV1 needs a Cray super computer to run - and the Vive can use my existing hardware- I'll go for the Vive - and visa versa.

Yes I'm hoping that Vive lighthouse system contains some post positional processing thus freeing up some CPU time (not that most games are CPU intensive)

I will support valve, not facebook, of course i am getting the vive, and not after the backstab oculus did to valve, they help designed the rift, then sell to facebook. Anyway, i dont understand, why you guys says FD think the vive is special, i didnt know ED was running in openvr, was ED shown in gamescon in the vive?. Why you think FD loved the vive?

I'm currently still inclined to buy both. Will definitely buy the Vive and hold back with the oculus.

Their CV1 presentation was disconcerting to say the least - all that talk about third person games and oculus home. When I saw this bit, I thought they were pulling my leg. Seriously - they make a VR Headset and then use it to simulate the player sitting in a virtual living room and playing a third person racing game on a virtual TV instead of placing the player in the drivers seat whilst streaming it from an Xbox... Yeah - right.

I'll hold back until it ships with the Oculus touch instead of an Xbox controller at least and I'll see to what extent they tie facebook in with oculus home and if oculus home is mandatory.

I'm probably gonna go with the Vive assuming it's not priced really prohibitively. Slightly annoying that I have the spare rooms here in my current house too but I'll be giving that up when moving.

Also, Catpain! I started shooting at you in CQC first night but I think you might have been afk :p

Backstabers at oculus are going to damaged the vr comunity not supporting steamvr and with stupid exclusives. We do not need another api war, we do not need segmentation of the development. Valve is a true partner that even wil share the lighthouse tech with everyone and openvr is well, open to everybody, while oculus is playing the nvidia, microsoft game of exlusivities. I dream that portal and half life will come exclusive to VIVE and see everybody throwing to the trash the cv1, but then again they will not do that, oculus would.
My only question is if Elite will have support for openvr from day one of the Vive, my credit card is waiting to know for when yhe pre orders open next month

At Gamescom, DB was asked about the future of VR and have they played with the CV1. (Forgive me for paraphrasing your question Slackr). The answer was along the lines that oculus may not be the best kid on the block.

I happened to have been standing right at the front when he was asked that question. The panel said off mic, we can't tell em can we. Then they gave that answer. Can only assume they were taking about the Vive, but they looked really excited.
