Which VR should I purchase for this hardware?

Thinking of returning to the game - basic, simple trading runs - but this time in VR.

GIGABYTE nVidia GeForce RTX 3050 EAGLE 8GB 128bit GV-N3050EAGLE OC-8GD VGA02574
INTEL-1200 Core i5-11400 6 cores 2.6GHz (4.4GHz) Box
INTEL-1200 Asus TUF GAMING B560-PLUS WIFI
Kingston DDR4 16GB 3200MHz FURY Beast KF432C16BB1/16

Of course I'm not expecting high end results, just please advise which VR can run ~decent-ish on this.

Thank you!

You can vary the resolution and other settings of any headset to get it to work, whether you like the end results is another thing.
It just depends how much you are prepared to spend. If you buy the better headset now it will take advantage of a GPU upgrade later.

I use the HP Reverb G2 and have had the Quest 2, I prefer the G2. It uses the GPU's DP output for the graphics unlike the Quest 2 that compresses the image and transmits via USB or WiFi to the headset, it has superior over ear headphones and a better standard headstrap, plus you don't need a facebook account. The Quest is cheaper and has better hand controller tracking (although hand controllers are not used in EDO), you will need a high quality USB cable, probably need to buy a better than standard issue headstrap and have that facebook account, so they can track your every move. Both use inside out for tracking.

Both are very good headsets for ED

I’ve read postings from Quest 2 owners who use an RTX 3050 (the rest of your specs are more than sufficient) - looking at performance tests the card seems to be just above the GTX 1660 Super - which should run ED Horizons in VR quite happily.

I’ve found the Q2 to be an excellent headset. Being able to wirelessly connect to my PC was a surprising game-changer for me after a few years of tethered VR. If the required Facebook login bothers you (as it does to some people) then you should know it was dropped in latest software update which is now rolling out across all devices - you now have the option to set up a Meta account instead (basically the old Oculus account rebranded).

No, this actually is my upgrade :(
I would say you PC is comparable to my wife's, maybe better. Your graphics card is slightly less powered but you have a far better CPU and my wife's CPU is a major bottleneck, which is why I think you will get gains over hers.

So, in that case...

Quest 2 is amazing quality. No it's not the best but there aren't many out there that beat it. I think the overall improvement in visual quality between the first commercial generation of headsets e.g. Rift and Vive and the Quest 2 is drawdropping! But there nearly five years between them.

I would also say that the Oculus VR runtime software, which you can obviously use with the Quest outperforms the other VR runtimes, such as OpenVR, SteamVR even in my recent experiences, the newer experimental ones, so you can get even more performance compared to using a different headset. (I think this makes sense because Oculus runtime is custom made for Oculus products unlike the others which need to cator for multiple devices.)

If you choose to go Quest 2, look at my sig for how I have it set up on the second PC.

All the best!

I'd wait a few months. Chinese leakers are saying Pico 4 is coming out this September. It should have 2160x2160p resolution, pancake lenses, a bit larger fov than Quest 2 and very compact design. Basically next gen and it will be heavily subsidized by ByteDance (TikTok owner) so it should be priced similar to Quest 2.

Useful thread for me ty.
My system has the rtx 3060 (will this play the vr game ok )?
I have had a Pc account since ED launch but been playing on a ps4, Got it just before lock down and was suprised at how enjoyable ED is with ps4 I bought the full package with psvr as it seemed just a matter of time before Frontier included VR for the Ps4 .FML. Now the migration is possible I bought a pc to game on I had forgotten that pc gaming can often be a lot about tinkering).
I have tried to get the Psvr working with the pc I have not given up yet but brain is befuddled with it atm.
I just wanted to get an idea of the game in Vr before i shell out for a reverb (and maybe keep me going till black friday to look for deals on reverbs)

Reverb seems the obvious choice ,well would be if the controller tracking was not so notorious. I am unlikely to use vr for anything else than ED but if I am shelling out £600 I kind of want to have the ability to play more than just ED as I have found shooters in VR can be quite entertaining.

Important note: Low spec VR should definitely stick to Horizons. Odyssey will tank your setup, not matter the HMD, in my opinion. Good luck.
