while flying over a planet searching for iron magma geysers....."BEEP" (?!?!?!)

just as the thread title states:

I am currently flying over a high metal content planet, searching for the iron magma geysers the planet description says it has (been searching for a while, cant find any), and intermittently I hear a single, short, somewhat high pitched "beep". Why? what does it mean? does it indicate that I am near something of interest? Is it my ship's scanner?

I have NEVER heard this beep before, but then I have never flown down to a planet with active volcanism before either, so I assume the two are related.

And yes, I know FOR A FACT it is coming from the game. Nothing else on my computer is running, its not my phone, or any other device in my room.

It just did it again! One beep. then nothing. I stopped my ship right then and there, brought it down near the surface and looked around everywhere, but theres nothing around....

It seems to happen every 10 to 15 minutes or so. One beep. Then nothing.

I have no idea. I have heard it once or twice myself in my explorations and wondered what it was also.

Look at the lower right portion of your HUD. It's the Mass Lock indicator turning on/off.

................

goddammit.

you're right.

And here I was hoping it might have either been an indicator that a geyser was nearby, or some kind of signal meant to guide me to.....something.

how have I never noticed this before???
