White Dwarves are Dangerous, Man!

I've first-hand experienced the deadly white-knuckle ride that is accidentally flying into a system with a white-dwarf star at the other end.
Unfortunately the chance to kill your speed & pull out of it's path / orbit is pretty slim, especially when flying a bucket of bricks like a T6. (I image it's a piece of cake in a ship with a half-decent turning circle)

I was thinking it would be cool if your sensors (an upgraded version at least) would give you a heads up as to the sort of star system you were jumping into so you can make the necessary adjustments to throttle and pulling away from the star.

Either that, or plz stop forcing us to jump into stars plummeting headfirst into a fiery death! Heh! :D

They can be pretty terrifying, that's for sure. Really close together binaries can be just as lethal if you don't slam on the breaks in time too!

Yeah I noticed, I jump out and as soon as I see that little white dwarf I think ooooooohh @#$%. And I'm flying a Viper.

Huh? Don't people set their speed to zero when the jump countdown starts? It should be second nature for everyone who has been playing the game for more than a few weeks. If you don't do it, sooner or later you are going to get burned... literally.

They cant do any harm if they are in the same system as you. Its when you jump into a nav beacon at a white dwarf that you can be screwed. Immediately knocked me out of cruise and then started frying my systems when it happened to me. You have to target another system and jump, which causes more heat and does even more damage. Makes me wonder about exploration. One of these could cut your journey very short.

I play since the Beta, but I never set my speed to zero right before the jump, simply because I didn't know that worked, it's never a problem only with the white dwarves it's a problem.

True. Especially if you're expecting to scoop then having the throttle set at 0 before exiting hyperspace is a good idea. In any case you're going to need to align yourself (whetherit be to the corona, or your next destination)...so zipping off into a random direction is not really sensible in any case.

That's what I'm talking about, right after you jump out of Hyperspace, you'll get you butt kicked by the dwarf..... oh wait that sounds weird.

Yeah, this happened to me in the flying brick that is my hauler. Luckily, I had no cargo on board as I was vaporized. Live and learn lol

Yep used to hate them when playing with the Xbox controller - it was jump with finger ready on the stick to pitch which ever way and finger ready to hit the slow down button like mad and even then it was bad language all the way - got pulled out of SC more than once and had to take the heat damage jumping. Then I got the HOTAS and it was a no brainer to reduce throttle as soon as "Engage" was heard making it a whole lot simpler to deal with.

Flying a T9, keyboard only, without insurance (I swore I would never do that - but then for some reason decided it would be fine for me to do it) and got caught in one of these, I was perilously close to 300% heat by the time I got out!

Still, I wouldn't have complained on the forums. I'd have been too embarrassed.

One of those occasions when using Voice Attack is a bad idea. It doesn't seem to understand commands that I squeal like a girl at it ;)

I have timed voice attack to having 2+ second delay in commands and in some places that = dead. You think, you say and then voice attack does. All takes time.

Your problem I understand, but found this to help avoid a similar one from Nutter’s explorers guide to the Galaxy:

How to avoid warping out in a star
