Who are Emperor's Grace?

I was told to get out of Kappa Tucanae and the surrounding systems last night by numerous players claiming allegiance with "Emperor's Grace." Apparently they are claiming this area as their space and won't let trading or bounty hunting to occur within these systems if you are not a part of their group. I was killed several times in my type 6 while I attempted to do missions in the area by these Emperor's Grace people.

Before you go and tell me I could go into solo, understand that I don't mind the Open play conflict. I love it in fact. I am just wondering when Frontier is going to implement a way to fight back against large groups patrolling and "barricading" a zone. These guys seem pretty fierce by how much they were interdicting and waiting at stations. To be fair though, it is pretty awesome running into this type of player driven emergent gameplay, I just wish that there was a way to identify them and get some friends together to hunt them in return or something.

Anyway, just so you know people, Kappa Tuccanae is apparently "owned" space if you are playing in open. It might be best to avoid for a while.

Interesting...

I agree with you though, people claiming an area for themselves isn't a problem and could add some excellent emergent gameplay (gang turf wars??). If only they had decided to declare allegiance to one of the independant factions too, then you could see from the system map what areas they 'owned' as that NPC faction grew in influence.

I don't know how they(Frontier) would handle it though. I guess the best bet would be to let players flag themselves to a certain faction. That way the factions in the game would have real meaning. I think it would be amazing to be able to Flag myself as a given in game faction and if a player is friendly with that faction, have me show up as green to them, hostile of course showing up as red. That way the choices we make in backing a certain in game faction would have real consequences beyond a color on the radar.

I just want to know who these guys are though, because they seemed pretty aggressive in holding their "territory" and I thought it was pretty novel.

I wonder if there are other groups out there that are anti Imperial that would be willing to start operating on their "home" turf. That way honest bounty hunter/traders like myself could actually actually operate there without fear of these space bullies spacing me.

Yeah, faction allegiance should update for each system you visit.

Faction blank when not Allied with any factions in system

Faction applied to you and other commanders of same faction are green when allied to faction

So, when you enter a system and there are some folks claiming to be with Emperor's Grace, you can verify that on the Contacts menu. If you are hostile towards their faction then they should appear red, as well.

Doesn't really add anything to the game but it does annoy me that commander allegiances are completely unknown to you while NPCs give up their affiliation (or at least their IFF) w/o a scan.

Emperor's Grace is a faction within the Empire, perhaps a group of players have allied themselves with that subfaction and are protecting Empire interests within that sector of space. Seems interesting if they are. Maybe we'd go check out out and see, the Imperial Society would join them in their endeavors if they are truly in service to the glory of the Empire.

Ave Imperator!

Yes, they should be let other Empire Allied players pass. However, as I mentioned above, there doesn't seem to be a way to verify allegiances of CMDRs...so they probably just take the stance of shoot everyone not in our group....or am I totally missing something

Just go through them systems in solo, problem solved or place them on ignore.

OP is not wanting to go solo and doesn't seem too bothered by the behavior...just wanting deeper discussion on how allegiances work and how you might be able to counter such groups.

Very unfortunate and strange if they just shoot to kill anybody not in their little clique. They could be policing against people hostile to the Empire, but this is just gang behavior.

I think it is this player group rather than a faction in game but I could be mistaken.

I think they were a player faction because they got me in LTT 700 as well. I understand that Emperor's Grace is an Imperial Faction in the game as well, but these guys seemed pretty organized. I guess I'll leave this to more organized groups to get involved with. A single player like myself can't deal with dog fighting with 3 people at the same time, especially in a type 6.

True, but having an area that's known to be dangerous because of a gang has more meaning than random killing and is something that adds to the game in my opinion.

So how come they haven't grouped up with the Goons, Test, Rangers, whoever - into a nice big PvP group so they can all smack each other up fighting over a station?

Everybody wins!

I guess my biggest problem with this type of thing is that if they are in a system trying to flip it to whatever, any big group of solo players can quickly erase any progress they have made just by being able to affect the open game world. In this context, that seems pretty screwed up to me. I just wish there WAS a way for Frontier to encourage this type of player interaction without it getting stomped on by solo or private players.

Totally agree. There is nothing wrong with solo, or group play, except for the glaringly obvious; those Galaxies should be alternate Galaxies, with nothing whatsoever to do with the, dare I say, 'proper Galaxy', that is Open. Play in one or the the other, or both, using two totally separate careers.

This mix-n-match rubbish, is just nonsense.
